Brittany Cartwright has gone through a lot with her ex-husband Jax Taylor amid his cocaine and alcohol addiction, his narcissism and his diagnosis with bi-polar disorder.
But of all the things he’s done, there’s one thing she can never forgive him for – especially since it disrupted their four-year-old son Cruz’s life.
Once they split, Jax, 45, refused to leave their house for seven months, forcing Brittany, 36, and Cruz, who diagnosed with autism in the fall, to move from rental house to rental house.
‘Jax would not leave for seven months, while I had to move to different rental houses,’ Cartwright said.
‘I even said that he could move into the rental houses that I paid for. He still wouldn’t do it. No matter what.’
‘I’ll never forgive him for doing that to us,’ she told People. ‘When you’re dealing with a child with autism, we shouldn’t be the ones moving around. That should have never happened. But that’s just how Jax is.’

Brittany said the home is a ‘safe space’ for her son and Jax’s refusal to leave the house is something she will never forget or forgive.
‘I didn’t know if I was going to get a chance to come back here,’ she told the outlet. ‘I went looking for houses, and I did all these different things.

‘But I wanted to be here. I feel like I made this house a home. Cruz was born here. This is his house. He’s got his pool outside; he’s got his swing set. He’s got his playroom. He’s got everything here.’
And The Valley star believes her ex-husband only moved out once he realized that that viewers would see that he banished Brittany and Cruz from their home.
Jax bought a condo when he reportedly came to that realization and finally left the Studio City home, so Brittany and Cruz could move back in.
‘I think, eventually, when the cameras got turned on [for season 2], he realized, “Oh God, everybody’s going to see that I made her move out of the house,”‘ she said.
‘That’s probably the only reason he finally moved out, I’m not even going to lie.’
And now that they are back in the house, she and her son aren’t moving.

‘I’m not putting her for sale,’ she sais. ‘This is my house. I’m proud of myself, that I could do it by myself.
‘I’m a girl from Kentucky, and I never even thought I would have a house like this. He don’t [sic] help me, at all,’ she emphasized.
‘Let me make that clear. He does not help me at all, with any of my bills. So I’m just proud of myself that I’m able to do it.’
As for her relationship with Jax, the former couple remain on rocky ground.
‘He’s done so much damage, and me and Cruz weren’t enough for him to get help for a very long time,’ she said.
‘I want his dad to be in his life, but it’s just really hard when you can’t trust somebody. It’s going to take me a long time to regain trust in him. I can just hope and pray that one day he will completely knock this, because I’m not sure yet.’
Meanwhile, Cruz, who is mostly non-verbal, was diagnosed with autism last fall.
Brittany sought a diagnosis from his developmental pediatrician after a regression in his verbal skills.

‘He crawled early, he walked early,’ Cartwright told People. ‘He was talking, he was saying, “Mommy,” “Daddy.” He was saying “H๏τ Dog!” from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Then, as he got closer to 2, we started noticing that he was regressing in his speech.’
The mother-of-one detailed how ‘stopped talking almost completely’ ahead of his second birthday, which prompted her and Taylor to put him in speech and occupational therapy right away.
Their journey looking for answers was documented on the first season of their hit reality show, The Valley, which aired last year.
‘It can be difficult because I’ve never heard him say, “I love you,” but he is so loving, and he shows me he loves me every single day,’ Cartwright added. ‘He is such a mommy’s boy.’
Before getting his diagnosis, Cartwright said she and Taylor were ‘expecting’ the news, but that hearing it from Cruz’s doctor made it ‘real.’
‘Our life is going to look a little bit different, but I feel like I was meant to be his mom,’ she said. ‘He is my better half. He is my little partner in crime. He is everything to me, and even though he can’t talk, I know everything that he wants, everything that he needs. We’re just so synced, it’s incredible.’
