A Minecraft Movie has soared to nearly $551 million in the global box office while Disney’s Snow White live-action remake dropped even further out of the top five spot this weekend.
The adventure comedy – which is based on the 2011 video game called Minecraft – also starred Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Coolidge.
During its second weekend in theaters, the movie is projected to bring in $80.6 million domestically while the worldwide number is expected to hit around $550.6 million, per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline.
A Minecraft Movie was shown at 4,289 theaters across the U.S. beginning on Friday, April 11 and still sits at the number one spot in the box office.
Domestically, the project is projected to make $280.3 million over the span of two weekends – after making a shock $301 million global opening last week.
Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy – studio chiefs of Warner Bros. – said in a recent statement, per The Hollywood Reporter: ‘We’re absolutely thrilled A Minecraft Movie has been so warmly received by audiences around the world.’

The film has garnered a score of 45% on Rotten Tomatoes as well as a rating of 6/10 on IMDB. A Minecraft Movie also raked in a B+ on CinemaScore.
Jared Hess – who directed the movie – recently talked to ᴅᴇᴀᴅline about a sequel possibly being in the works.
‘Well, it would be so much fun. We had so much fun making this movie, and it’s such an expansive world in the game, and there were so many things that we didn’t tap into that we wanted to.
He added, ‘I would have a blast doing the sequel, and it seems like there’s already talk about it happening, so I’m super excited. It’ll be so much fun to go back into the world.
‘The fans are just having such a good time. We teased it in the end credits, and the fans seem to be going wild for it.’

Earlier this week on Friday, Snow White was also notably dropped out of 1,210 theaters.
Last week – which was the movie’s third weekend in theaters – made $5.9 million domestically and landed the number four spot with A Minecraft Movie at number one.

Snow White opened with $42.2 million in the U.S. and dropped 66% during its second weekend in theaters – raking in just $14.3 million.
The film also quickly fell down to the number two spot on the box office list behind Jason Statham’s A Working Man which garnered $15.3 million.
After barely a month in theaters, Snow White has made around $81.9 million domestically and $173 million globally – with the movie’s budget being around $270 million.
The leading star Rachel Zegler was embroiled in drama following her controversial comments about the original 1937 Disney animation.
She sparked backlash after she called the storyline of the film ‘weird’ and also labeled the prince as a ‘stalker.’
In one past interview, Zegler had revealed that the new film would be going in a different direction and said of the character of Snow White: ‘She’s not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love.’

The star also faced backlash when she was first cast as Snow White as a Latina actress.
In response to the negative reception, Rachel penned in a since-deleted post: ‘yes i am snow white no i am not bleaching my skin for the role (sic).’
Last year in November, Zegler had slammed Donald Trump voters – but later issued an apology for hoping that ‘Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.’
Snow White has a score of 1.6/10 on IMDB and a rating of 40% on Rotten Tomatoes. The remake was given a B+ on CinemaScore.
A variety of new movies were released this weekend, including the animation The King Of Kings – which is sitting at the number two spot underneath A Minecraft Movie as it rakes in $19.05 domestically.
Oscar Isaac, Pierce Brosnan, Mark Hamill, Roman Griffin Davis, Uma Thurman and Kenneth Branagh voiced characters in the biblical movie.
The film was made under Angel Studios and has garnered an A+ on CinemaScore and a score of 64% on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences gave the movie a rating of 97%.
The premise is: ‘Through a father’s vivid storytelling, a boy journeys through Jesus’ life, from humble beginnings to ultimate sacrifice. Along the way, he discovers the transformative power of faith,’ per IMDB.

Warfare also released this weekend and has a number four spot with $8.3 million domestically.
The thriller тιтled Drop – which stars Brandon Sklenar and Meghann Fahy – opened with $7.5 million.
