Melanie Sykes made a heartbreaking admission on Friday evening as she told fans she is battling with alopecia in ‘quite a significant way.’
The TV star, 54, took to her Instagram page and updated her followers about her health, revealing she is also suffering from heart issues.
In a new 30-minute YouTube clip, which she encouraged her audience to watch, Mel explained she has ‘lost half her hair’ and showed her side profile, where she pointed out the bald spot on her head.
She said the pH๏τo was taken whilst she was in London ‘investigating some health issues.’
‘I am experiencing alopecia and heart issues due to all that has happened over the last few months. PTSD, shock, mistreatment and malpractice,’ the former TV presenter revealed.
Mel shared her experiences with the UK’s health care system, telling her subscribers: ‘I am uploading a new video on YouTube because I wanted to share what I have learned, observed and endured recently.

‘Not because of the trend of sharing all diagnosis but to share the experiences I have encountered in the British medical system in the state and private sector for the last few weeks and beyond, and it’s crashing flaws and how the mainstream media effects me and my life.’
She went on to say: ‘This country must do better, and get better. Our health services are utterly shocking bar a few and rare decent humans who listen without prejudice and judgement.’
Mel went into further detail on her health struggles as she showcased her hair loss by parting sections of her hair.
‘I’m experiencing alopecia in quite a significant way. I’ve lost inches off my hairline at the back and probably got half my hair at the moment,’ she noted.
The mum-of-two also added how she has been dealing with stress and insomnia.
Thankfully, she is having treatment and has been to see a scalp specialist – who has confirmed her hair will grow back.
After not being taken seriously for her ‘dodgy ticker,’ Mel found a cardiologist who is willing to help with her heart problems too.

She worked with the TV chef on ITV’s Let’s Do Lunch and has been vocal about her experiences with ‘misogyny’ in the TV industry.
Gino was accused of allegations of inappropriate and intimidating behaviour over a 12-year period – which he has vehemently denied.
Mel has been very vulnerable with her mental health recently.
She revealed how she once contemplated taking her own life, as a release from her pain and psychological turmoil.
The ex-presenter believes that rather than being a fearful experience, death can provide an exit from suffering.
Mel also describes how she enjoys solo worshipping sessions in empty churches, where she can weep in private, in the absence of the priest and the congregation.
Discussing social atтιтudes towards death and dying, she describes herself as a spiritual person, who prefers to embrace, rather than push away the inevitable.
Born in Lancashire, Mel came to fame in a 1996 TV advert that showed her serving Boddingtons Bitter from an ice cream van.

She then went on to enjoy a successful career in television from the Big Breakfast in 1997 to fronting her own daytime show alongside the late Des O’Connor- Today with Des and Mel in 2002.
Then in 2014 she headed to the jungle to star in ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, finishing in third place behind X Factor singer Jake Quickenden.
But in 2021, following her diagnosis with autism, she finally turned her back on showbiz.
Speaking about her condition, she said: ‘My late diagnosis of autism has changed my life for the better, I just needed to do the work. For once I come first.’
