He’s a British music icon whose poetic lyrics and rebellious spirit helped define a generation of indie rock.

With a reputation as unpredictable as it is legendary, the enigmatic star once captivated fans and tabloids alike with his talent and wild lifestyle, including dating supermodel Kate Moss for two years.

On Friday, the elusive rocker was spotted looking almost unrecognisable as he stepped out for a low-key stroll in Sydney during a break on his Australian tour.

Sporting a relaxed look that blended quirky charm with understated cool, he stood casually outside a local tobacco shop.

Wearing a grey fedora, unʙuттoned black blazer and a paisley neck scarf, the musician’s signature offbeat style was on full display.

He paired the look with faded blue jeans and navy velvet slippers featuring Bart and Homer Simpson, after the star recently revealed he’s ‘at risk of having his toes amputated’ amid his fight with Type 2 diabetes.

Although the singer sported a fuller figure than he did during his musical heyday and his hair was now grey, he still has the same cheeky grin that won over fans.

The singer-songwriter exuded an air of cool detachment as he strolled down the scenic street while smoking a cigarette.

That’s right — it is none other than The Libertines frontman Pete Doherty, making the most of some downtime in the Harbour City.

The Babyshambles singer was seen enjoying a quiet moment on the streets of Sydney as part of his tour break.

The British rocker – once known as much for his turbulent personal life as his musical genius – is currently touring Australia with his legendary band.

In a video obtained by The Sun at his gig in Munich, Germany, Pete provided his fans with a health update.

He said: ‘I saw the doctor today and he said you need to stay off your feet as much as you can otherwise you’ll lose your toes.’

Those with type 2 diabetes are at higher risk for many related health problems, including foot or leg amputation.

Last spring, Pete confirmed his diagnosis with the chronic disease, saying: ‘I’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And at the moment, I’m lacking the discipline to tackle cholesterol.’

Pete, who had a highly publicised battle with drugs, has given up the ‘main poisons’ to improve his health after his doctor issued a stark warning.

Speaking to The Guardian’s Saturday Magazine, he said: ‘I gave up the main poisons and my health improved.’

‘Then you get told alcohol and cheese and sugar are just as bad and you were healthier when you were on heroin.’

Pete then went on to call himself ‘a bit of a glutton’.

‘It’s not a joke,’ he said. ‘I’ve been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. And at the moment I’m lacking the discipline to tackle cholesterol.’

But it seems Pete has worked on his lack of discipline after receiving some harsh words from his doctor.

The star previously told the Evening Standard that his doctor had told him he had to change his diet immediately.

He told the publication: ‘I have seen a liver doctor who says I need to change my diet – too much cheese, too much milk.

‘But the cheese is so good, that’s part of the reason I stay here… It’s a cholesterol and diabetes thing now, but there are tablets, it makes a big difference.’

Now 46 and living a quieter life in France with his wife Katia de Vidas, Pete has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent years.

He has swapped the chaos of his youth for calmer days – though the eccentric fashion sense and poetic presence remain very much intact.

In September, the controversial Brit rocker confirmed he will be bringing The Libertines to Australia, but some fans were unimpressed by the news.

The singer announced the London-based band will be making their highly-anticipated return to Australia in April 2025 for three exclusive shows.

It will mark the first time The Libertines have performed on Aussie soil in seven years and their second ever tour Down Under, but some fans were left fuming over the announcement.

Aussies on the West Coast were devastated upon learning the band will only be hitting three major cities across the East Coast – Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Many fans were quick to take to Instagram to share their disappointment that the hugely-popular band will not be visiting Adelaide, Western Australia or New Zealand.

‘There is a West Coast of Australia you know…….’ one disgruntled fan remarked, as another said: ‘Adelaide, please.’

The Libertines will first play Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on 12 April, followed by The Forum in Melbourne on 15 April, and Forтιтude Music Hall in Brisbane on 17 April.

The Libertines – made up of Pete, Carl Barat, John Hᴀssall and Gary Powell – last visited Australia back in 2018, which was also the first time the band ever came Down Under.

Pete formed The Libertines with Carl in London in 1997, but it wasn’t until 2002 that they achieved widespread success with the release of their debut album Up the Bracket.

Amid a public battle with drug and alcohol addiction and in-fighting between members, Pete quit the group in 2004 but they reformed in 2010.

Back in his 2000s heyday, Pete famously courted national attention when he dated supermodel Kate Moss, after meeting at her birthday party.

Their turbulent romance briefly ended when Pete failed to complete a stint in rehab, with Kate saying at the time she had ‘various personal issues I need to address’.

He even drew a portrait of himself and Kate using crayons and his own blood in 2005, famously scrawling ‘I love Kate 4 eva’ on the windscreen of his Jaguar after leaving court following a drug-related offence.

However, the couple then split for good in 2007 following a series of blazing rows.
