Only one contestant on The 1% Club word managed to figure out the penultimate riddle on the ITV show on Saturday night – but do you think that you would get it?

Host Lee Mack asked the remaining compeтιтors what well-known phrase they could see from a bunch of letters.

The letters T, M, C, A, U, O, H,S, M, W, T and an E, appeared in a box. 

Out of seven contestants, only one, named Steve, got the answer right – and it was ‘What goes up must come down.’

Steve had realised that the first column of letters spelt out ‘What’, followed by ‘Must’ and then ‘come’ in the third column. 

The word ‘What’ was spelt out in an upwards direction, while the other two words were spelt downwards, highlighting the common phrase.

Steve later missed out on a record-breaking win after a seriously tricky question.

The 1% Club sees the players get asked a number of questions, with the first only 90% of them can answer, all the way down to the last one, which only 1% can answer – statistically speaking, at least.

Each person who drops out of the compeтιтion after answering a question wrong adds £1,000 to the cash prize fund – and on Saturday night it added up to £100,000.

Lee pointed out that it was “quite unusual” for that to happen and gave the lucky final contestant Steve the chance to go home with a guaranteed £10,000, or try his luck at getting more money.  

Lee said: ‘If you do [the latter], you’ll be the first ever person on the show to win the full £100,000.’

The latest instalment of the ITV show, hosted by Lee Mack, saw 100 contestants try and get their hands on £100,000

He added: ‘No one has ever done that before!’

And Steve decided to take a risk… however he struggled to answer the question. 

He had to answer: ‘What two letters replace the question marks? TE times T equals MESSAGE, TO times IN equals POISON, E times ?? equals LEAVE.’

Steve decided to go with the letters N and E, but unfortunately Lee told him that the answer was I and T. 

Lee explained: ‘If you replaced “times” with “X”, you form words with the same meaning as the words on the right.’ 

Steve confessed: ‘Didn’t get it. Didn’t get it.’

‘Steve, gutted for you mate,’ Lee replied. 

‘You did really well to get this far, you really did. Unfortunately you didn’t make it into the 1% Club.’

Another contestant lost their £10,000 jackpot after struggling with the final question.

Player Brett made his way through the trivia game easily but on the last round, he chose to take a risky gamble instead of walking away with the prize.

If he answered correctly, he would win an eye-watering £96,000 and join the prestigious 1% Club, host Lee Mack explained.

As the presenter asked him to fill the gaps of several sentences using the same four-letter word so that they made sense, the player looked totally gobsmacked as he struggled to find the answer.

‘I didn’t know it. I put last. I just couldn’t see it,’ Brett explained to the host, who was looking for the word ‘only’.

The correct sentences read: ‘Only I am certain that he read the man’s notes. I am certain that only he had read the man’s notes. I am certain that he had read the man’s only notes.’

‘Brett, unlucky. That was a big gamble. You did brilliant to get this far and you have of course got your £1,000. SO congratulations,’ Lee told the contestant in a bid to console him.

‘Unfortunately you didn’t make it into the 1% Club, but you can walk away knowing that you did better than the rest of the people in this room tonight, so well done you!’

Meanwhile another question drove a finalist to walk away from a whopping £94,000 jackpot in the latest episode.

Lee still read out the question after their decision: ‘Yolande takes one tablet on every day of the week that has three vowels in total in it. She starts this pack on 2nd March. What date will she need to start a new pack?’

However, one of the players, Sara, had a go and managed to get it correct, meaning she missed out on the huge jackpot.

The answer was Tuesday, March 26.

‘I wanted to not go home empty handed,’ Sara explained. 

Lee replied: ‘I still think you’ve done the right thing given how difficult these questions can be.’
