Emma Corrin has revealed playing Princess Diana in the fourth season of smash hit Netflix series The Crown was a double edged sword.
The actor, 29, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, said the role which catapulted them to superstardom both ‘changed their life’ while also the ‘greatest warning’ about fame.
While posing for a kooky Elle pH๏τoshoot Emma told the publication: ‘As time goes on, it’s so weird to think about how much it changed my life. It’s almost too big to think about.’
Since their appearance as the late Princess of Wales, Emma has gone on to star in box office smashes Nosferatu and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, as well as a current West End appearance alongside Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, 55.
Speaking about navigating fame they said: ‘It’s a very weird aspect of this job. I find it really hard. I’m grateful, obviously, for everything my work brings my way, but as you get older and you think about what you want for the rest of your life,’
‘I’m trying to find a balance of liking the work I’m doing and the choices I’m making, and distancing myself from [the rest]. I think playing Diana was, in a way, the greatest warning.’

Emma looked effortlessly trendy in the snaps as they posed up a storm in a string of stylish outfits complete with dazzling Cartier jewels.
The star, who is a long term relationship with fellow actor Rami Malek, 43, also hinted at their happy home life, saying: ‘I feel more centred this year. I feel very settled in myself, which I haven’t experienced for a long time’.
Emma also took the opportunity to gush over co-star Cate, with whom they are currently appearing in a critically lauded production of The Seagull.
‘Cate is incredible at it. She’ll chuck random s*** in and we’ll just go with it. I’m in awe of her imagination and creativity’.
‘[Director Thomas Ostermeier] creates this atmosphere where you could pretty much do anything. It’s an amazing way of working. We’re a complete family. I’ve never felt closer to [a cast].’
The plot for the play reads: ‘Arriving at her family’s country estate for the weekend, she finds herself caught in a storm of conflicting desires.
‘Her playwright son, Konstantin (Kodi Smit-McPhee), struggles to step out of her shadow as he pursues his own artistic ambitions and her lover Trigorin (Tom Burke) becomes the object of affection for the aspiring young actress Nina (Emma Corrin).’
Praising Cate’s performance The Daily Mail’s Patrick Marmion’s wrote: ‘With her geometrical features, Blanchett is as masklike and inscrutable as ever.

Earlier this year Rami spoke about his relationship with longtime partner in a new interview published by The Guardian.
The 43-year-old Bohemian Rhapsody actor and Emma have been dating, at least publicly, since July 2023.
‘That person [is] fascinating,’ Rami said of his romantic counterpart, who uses ‘they/them’ pronouns.
When reporter Charlotte Edwardes described Emma as ‘smart and quirky,’ he played coy, simply replying, ‘We like quirky.’
At another point in the conversation, he mentioned having stayed in the previous night to watch Dr Strangelove with them, but generally steered clear of divulging too much about his relationship and personal life.

Emma came out as non-binary in 2022 and told Vogue at the time, ‘In my mind, gender just isn’t something that feels fixed,’
‘I don’t know if it ever will be; there might always be some fluidity there for me.’
The Hollywood star added, ‘I like people. My first date with a girl, they were like, “Oh! You’re a baby queer!”
‘It was amazing. We actually didn’t end up seeing each other again, but she really gave me the lowdown.’
They added, ‘I’m working out all this complex gender and Sєxuality stuff. And yet, I’m seeing a guy? That feels very juxtaposed, even if I’m very happy.’
