Estelle has recalled the surreal first encounter she had with Kanye West before she skyrocketed into fame.

The British singer, 45, also spoke about the time she manifested meeting John Legend, who catapulted her into the spotlight.

Estelle said she unexpectedly met Kanye in Roscoe’s Soul Food restaurant in America and ‘prayed for him to come outside’ so she could speak to him about getting her in touch with John.

The American Boy songstress said she had become obsessed and in awe with the singer’s voice and had always dreamt of working with him one day.

John went onto sign Estelle on his record label in 2004 after spotting her talent when Kanye first introduced her to him.

Estelle spoke about the unlikely encounter on Paul C Brunson’s latest episode on his We Need To Talk podcast.

She said: ‘I go to Roscoe’s and I’ve got my headphones in and I look up and look to the right, and it’s Kanye.

‘I go outside and I do a prayer I was like “Dear God if you are there right now please I need him to come outside so I can say something to him in Jesus name I just need to tell him I need to work with John [Legend] this is what I need And please if you are real I need you to make it happen in Jesus name Thank you Amen.” 

‘Then I go back to listening to the record and then Kanye walked right outside and I said “Oh thank you Jesus”.

‘He’s [Kanye] like all right well take my number and come to the studio [with John Legend].

‘Kanye’s like “Yo you missing this note.” And he [John Legend] couldn’t figure out what the note was so I sang the note for him and John was like “I did that note.” And I was like “It’s there.”  

‘And I just know what I’m doing in the studio so I was like “It’s probably turned down. It’s this note right?” And he’s like “Yeah.” And I was like “Yes it’s probably turned down”.

‘And the guy had muted it, and they look at me like I got three heads because why are you telling us what to do who the f*** are you what the h*** is happening I’m just like I know what I know okay and I’m not afraid to like say it.’

When she told John she was leaving her label, Estelle said: ‘I might be leaving the label and he said to me I’ll sign you.

Her chat comes after she joined singing sensation Usher onstage during his fifth show at London’s O2 Arena.

The rapper stepped out to cheers from the audience, looking radiant in a iridescent silver shirt and matching flares. 

She swept her braids up into an elegant bun and draped a huge fur coat over her shoulders to matching with Usher, who went shirtless under his.

Estelle then belted out her international hit song American Boy, which she released 17 years ago, and became her most successful single. 

The track was a UK number one and featured Kanye West, winning the pair the Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration in 2009.
