University Challenge fans raged ‘it’s annoying me already’ just minutes into the show after spotting one contestant’s unusual habit.

Monday’s episode of the BBC Two quiz show saw host Amol Rajan welcome Warwick University and University College London as they played in the quarter finals.

Ananya Govindarajan, Thomas Hart, Oscar Siddle and Benjamin Watson represented Warwick, while UCL’s team consisted of Callum Jack, Josh Mandel, Olivia Holtermann Entwistle and Sanjay Prabhakar.

However, many viewers were quick to point out the habit of one contestant that they noticed.

When Amol began asking the questions, Thomas appeared to pose ready with his elbow pointed upwards.

Some fans took to social media to call out the behaviour and one even called it ‘insufferable’ while someone else posted on X: ‘The elbow is back.’

Another wrote: ‘#universitychallenge Hart at elbow training earlier today.’

While a third penned: ‘Hart straight in the dressing room after the final gong… to put an ice pack on his elbow.’

Someone else noticed another contestant was striking a similar pose and said: ‘Siddle has started to do the elbow thing too!!’

Another added: ‘#UniversityChallenge Hart’s craned arm stance gives him the extra weight/leverage for hitting that buzzer it seems.’

One viewer penned: ‘Hart is annoying me already #UniversityChallenge.’

Someone else commented: ‘The Hart elbow is back #UniversityChallenge.’

While others complimented the contestant’s ability and one said: ‘Hart – Warwick amazing knowledge again.’

Someone else posted: ‘Hart’s a clever guy & it’s fascinating to see how his brain processes data #UniversityChallenge.’

It isn’t his first time striking the pose on University Challenge – fans were left distracted by Thomas’ ‘nonsensical’ habit during an episode back in February.

Viewers of the BBC Two show saw eight students from Queen’s University Belfast and Warwick University students battle it out for a place in the semi-finals.

Presenter Amol Rajan took them through a double elimination round, where students had three chances to pick up at least two wins to qualify for the next round.

While watching the episode, many fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to point out an unusual habit from player Thomas.

Many pointed out that the player, from South Wales, had a very unique way of buzzing in for his questions.

One tweeted: ‘Only watching for the elbow action.’

A second said: ‘Noooo! Not Hart and his flying elbow again.’

‘Oh God the elbow is back,’ a third added.

A fourth wrote: ‘Why am I being distracted by Hart’s nonsense elbow action, and his absolute RASCAL medallion. #UniversityChallenge.’

A fifth questioned: ‘Does Hart hover over the buzzer like that so that god can push down on his elbow?’

But it’s not the first time that Thomas has done it on our screens.

The maths student was on University Challenge at the start of February too and he did the same thing then.

February 3rd’s instalment of the BBC show saw Warwick take on players from Oriel College Cambridge.

Thomas’ habit has been hilariously named ‘The Hart Attack’.

Warwick University were crowned winners of the episode with 215 points.

Queen’s Belfast ended the show with 95 points.

But luckily they aren’t out of the compeтιтion just yet.

Host Amol said: ‘You know what guys, that was such an impressive performance against at exceptional performance.

‘And it would be so sad if we had to say goodbye to Percy the Potato, and you!

‘But luckily for you, it’s not over yet because you get to come back  and have another go.

‘So we don’t have to say good bye just yet.

‘Though Warwick, we have to say well done. I mean, that is a tremendously impressive performance.

‘And imagine how good you’d been if we’d given you Femtochemistry as well.

‘That would have been even better.

‘Bad luck on that one. But we shall see you again!’

University Challenge airs Mondays at 8:30pm on BBC Two and is available to stream on iPlayer.
