Ryan Adams has caused his fans to worry after he was accused of being a ‘rambling mess’ during his performance at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall on Saturday. 

The American rock and country singer, 50, stormed off the stage after a fan ‘flashed a camera at him’ and was later seen stumbling around the stage. 

His behaviour in stage left the audience disgruntled and accused him being off-beat, ‘out of time’ and singing ‘incoherent’ versions of songs’. 

He took to the stage in Northern Ireland as part of his Heartbreakers tour, to mark the 25th anniversary of the critically acclaimed album.

Flocking to social media, viewers shared their dismay as one penned: ‘It’s hard to know where to start with tonight’s Ryan Adams show at the Waterfront. 

‘But the man needs help badly. It’s quite sad to see someone so talented lose it in front of your eyes’

A spokesperson for the Waterfront Hall said: ‘As a venue for hire, we are committed to providing a professional and respectful environment for all artists, audiences and staff.

‘Ahead of last night’s performance, the artist’s team requested that flash pH๏τography not be used during the show. This was clearly communicated in advance via signage throughout the venue.

‘The content and delivery of performances are the responsibility of artists.’

Ryan  is due to perform in Dublin this Sunday and Monday before taking a break from touring.

The star previously cancelled his 2023 solo tour, citing ongoing health issues as Ryan revealed the news in an emotional Instagram post, thanking God for helping him get sober.

‘Behind the scenes…I have been struggling with my health,’ he wrote.

The singer said his sobriety had been his ‘anchor’ and that recovery was his priority.

‘All solo shows for this year are postponed,’ he added at the time.

Adams previously spoke openly about his battles with alcohol and drugs, saying sobriety was his main focus.

He thanked fans for their support, promising to reschedule shows for 2024.

‘You’ve made all the dreams come true,’ he told them. ‘Even on the toughest nights.’

In 2009, he quit his band The Cardinals, blaming Ménière’s disease for hearing loss and vertigo.

Adams also slammed audience behaviour and shared his disillusionment with the music industry.

At a 2022 Nashville show, he famously paid a heckler £30 to leave after they shouted for ‘Summer of 69’ and he refused to play another note until the fan was gone.

Summer of 69 is a hit that topped the charts by Bryan Adams not Ryan, who the fan had seemingly confused him for.
