Jesy Nelson shares an update on her pregnancy from hospital after undergoing emergency surgery to save her unborn twins

Jesy Nelson has updated fans on her unborn twins, after undergoing surgery to save her babies’ lives.

The Little Mix star, 34, shared last month that she’d been diagnosed with pre-twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, meaning one or both babies could be at risk of death, before tearfully explaining she had to have an emergency procedure.

Since the procedure, which Jesy shared was a success, the star has been told she has to stay in hospital until she reaches a certain number of weeks in her pregnancy, due to fears that she could go into early labour.

And in a new Instagram post on Sunday, Jesy shared that she was still in hospital with her boyfriend Zion Foster, and if he wanted to take her outside for some fresh air, they had to use a wheelchair.

She told her followers: ‘Hi guys, happy Sunday, We just wanted to come on here because we are another week further along and we feel so grateful and blessed that these little babies are still going strong.

‘We just wanted also thank you so much for your wonderful supportive, beautiful messages. You guys have been so lovely.

‘We have seen all your lovely messages and it has really helped keep us going. So we just wanted to say thank you for that.

‘I hope you are enjoying the sunshine. Unfortunately we can’t. Well, we can, Zion takes me out in the wheelchair down the road but that’s as far as we can go.’

Jesy then ended her post by telling her followers that she would keep them updated on her progress.

Last week, Jesy shared that she had undergone an emergency procedure to save her unborn twins, being diagnosed with pre-twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, meaning one or both babies could be at risk of death.

After several weeks of recovery, the singer and her partner Zion took to Instagram to reveal the surgery had been successful, as they voiced their graтιтude.

Filming from her hospital room, Jesy beamed as she addressed her followers: ‘Hey guys! We just wanted to give you guys an update, as we know it’s been a while.

‘I don’t know if you can see, but we are still in hospital. I’ve been recovering, but we have some amazing news.

‘The TTTS has cleared up, the operation was a success, which is just absolutely incredible. We are so, so lucky to have the most amazing doctors.’

However, she went on to reveal that she still had a journey ahead, as she was at risk of going into labour too prematurely, so had to remain in hospital until she’d pᴀssed a certain number of weeks.

The pop star explained: ‘Basically, the situation we’re in now is my cervix is very, very short, so I can’t leave the hospital because my waters could break at any point and I’m still very, very early.

‘I can’t leave the hospital until I’m a certain amount of weeks, so every week we’re just like, ‘Please, please, please, stay in there!”

However, Jesy admitted that she and Zion were so relieved their twins were still doing so well, gushing: ‘But we’re just so grateful that they’re still here and they’re still going strong.’

Zion added: ‘We’re just one week at a time. We’re in such a blessed position to even be able to make this video’.

While the couple then revealed that Zion had decided to run the London Marathon next month, with the Twins Trust charity.

The music producer admitted it had been an ‘impromptu decision’, but had been inspired by the amazing work the charity did in helping families with twins.

He explained: ‘Obviously with Jess going through what she’s going through, as much as I’m going through it too, I feel like I’m not really carrying the babies.

‘So this was my way of saying I’m going to throw myself in the deep end. I’m going to run a marathon in four weeks!’

In March, Jesy broke down in tears as she informed fans she needed to have have the emergency procedure because her symptoms had worsened.

In another Instagram clip, she explained: ‘Unfortunately, the symptoms have got worse so they now have to perform the procedure, which is obviously not what we wanted to happen but it’s necessary because it’s going to give our babies the best chance of surviving.

‘So we’re just waiting to go in and we’re just hoping and praying for the best really. I feel absolutely gutted because I was really hoping we wouldn’t be in this position.

‘It’s obviously really scary because there’s so many things that can happen. Pray for us, please.’

Asma Khalil, Professor of Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine at St George’s Hospital, University of London, recommended that families facing a similar situation to Jesy and her partner contact the charity, Twins Trust, for resources and support.

Jesy previously explained how she’s suffering ongoing ‘complications’ during her pregnancy with identical twins.

Sharing a video alongside boyfriend Zion, she told her followers that she’s currently having twice-weekly scans to monitor her babies.

The singer said: ‘We wanted to let you in on our journey of what we’ve been going through.

‘So we are having identical twins which is so exciting – we cannot believe it. But, unfortunately, there are complications that come with having identical twins.

‘The type of twins we are having are called mono/di twins and so normally most twins will have two placentas that they feed off of.

‘But when you have mono/di twins, that means your twins live off one placenta which can lead to lots of complications – one of them being one baby might take all the nutrients which, and it’s really awful to say, but could lead to both babies dying.’

The singer then added: ‘I am currently pre-stage TTTS which is twin-to-twin transfusion and I am being monitored very closely and I have to go and be scanned twice a week.

‘The current situation is that every time I’ve gone it has got a little bit worse but we are just hoping and praying for the best.’

Jesy admitted she and Zion were ‘blessed’ to be expecting twins, but said she was ‘getting upset’ over her health difficulties as she fought back tears.

‘It’s just really sad that it does come with these complications,’ she added.

‘We had no clue that this kind of thing happens when you have twins. We just really wanna raise awareness about this.’

Jesy went on to say she would update her fans while undergoing twice-weekly scans, adding all she and Zion can do is pray that things will improve moving forward.

TTTS is a potentially fatal condition that can occur in identical pregnancies when twins share a placenta.

Abnormal blood vessel connections form in the placenta and prevent blood from flowing evenly between the babies.

One twin then becomes dehydrated, which affects its growth. The other develops high blood pressure and produces too much urine.

This leads to an enlarged bladder and excessive amounts of amniotic fluid, which can put a strain on the twin’s heart, leading to heart failure.

Without treatment, TTTS can be fatal for both twins. There’s just a 50/50 chance of both twins surviving.

Monochorionic twins typically have two amniotic sacs but share a placenta, and a natural birth is considered risky.

Jesy and Zion went public with their relationship in January 2023 after rumours surfaced in 2022 about their growing closeness.

They dated for 18 months before splitting in August 2023, citing the age gap and differing mindsets.

However, the couple reconciled, only to separate again five months later, before reuniting once again in November.

WHAT IS TWIN-TWIN TRANSFUSION SYNDROME?

Twin-twin transfusion syndrome is a rare but serious condition that can occur in identical pregnancies when twins share a placenta.

The condition occurs in about around 15 per cent of identical twins who share a placenta, according to the charity Twins Trust.

Around 300 twins die from the condition every year in the UK, while 6,000 babies are affected annually in the US.

Draining excess amniotic fluid can help to improve blood flow.

If this is not enough, laser surgery is used to seal shut abnormal blood vessels and permanently disconnect them.

The surgeon then drains excess fluid.

Even when treated successfully, most TTTS babies are born premature.

However, the majority go on to have long, healthy lives.
