James Nelson-Joyce has landed a role in a ‘creepy’ Netflix hit after the huge success of BBC’s This City Is Ours.
The actor, 36, starred in the Liverpool-based series as crime boss Michael Kavanagh.
He captivated fans with his performance alongside Sean Bean and Hannah Onslow, as well as Gavin and Stacey star Laura Aikman.
Now, he is set for a new role in season seven of Black Mirror, which will air on Netflix on April 10, though his exact character has yet been revealed.
The new series, created by Charlie Brooker, will also star Chris O’Dowd, Emma Corrin and Will Poulter, amongst others.
Black Mirror is a ‘mind-bending anthology series’, according to the synopsis, and first aired in 2023.

On the new season, Charlie said: ‘You can expect a mix of genres and styles. We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length.
‘Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.’

James has starred in a range of hits so far including The Responder, The Outlaws and Industry, and many of his roles have been villainous or troubled characters.
He told the Independent: ‘You know what, everyone comes up to me and says, ‘you were horrible in that’ or, ‘I was scared to come over.”
However the story of This City Is Ours caught James’ attention and he revealed he flew through the script, despite being dyslexic.
‘It [was] a page-turner, and I remember thinking to myself, ‘I’m not letting anyone else play this character’,’ he said.
It come as James’ name has been thrown into the mix to be the next James Bond and he has revealed whether he’d take on the role of the iconic spy.
James shared that he would be very interested in playing the 007 spy, saying it would be a ‘privilege’ to be the first ever Scouse Bond.
‘I mean… double oh Scouse, I’m here for it,’ he quipped during an interview with the BBC.

Since his debut in This City Is Ours, the odds of James being the next Bond have soared from 25-1 to 6-1 in a huge leap, according to Coral Bookmakers.
‘James Nelson-Joyce has made a big impression on the new BBC crime drama series, This City Is Ours,’ Coral’s John Hill said.
‘He has been well backed to become the next James Bond following the opening episode.’
James is in the running alongside the likes of The White Lotus’ Theo James, Superman Henry Cavill and Happy Valley’s James Norton.
Black Mirror is available to stream on Netflix from April 10.
