The Chase fans were left shocked by a teacher’s ‘shocking’ blunder and some even swiped ‘call OFSTED quick’ – but can you solve the question that stumped him?
Four contestants, Janet, James, Izzy and Kahlum, featured on Wednesday’s instalment of the ITV quiz show hosted by Bradley Walsh, 64.
James, 26, from Cardiff earned a respectable £3,000 in the cash-builder round and then went against Chaser Shaun Wallace, also known as the Dark Destroyer.
He was only one correct answer away from returning to his team and adding cash to the prize pot when Bradley asked the question: ‘In England and Wales, a child can leave school in what month if they are 16 by the end of the summer holidays?’
The student teacher answered ‘May’ and explained, ‘I don’t know, wasn’t sure if it was a trick question. I didn’t know if July was too easy because obviously the school term is until July.’
However, the correct answer was June. Fortunately Shaun answered July, which gave James another chance to win.

Some viewers were surprised that James answered it incorrectly, given his profession, and joked about it on social media.
One posted on X: ‘He calls himself a teacher and doesn’t know yr 11’s can leave in June after their exams. Shocking!’
Another quipped: ‘Call OFSTED quick, this guy is a teacher???’
While someone else chimed in: ‘Please don’t be a teacher James.’
A fourth commented: ‘Teacher Does not know school question? #TheChase.’
Unfortunately, James then got the next question wrong and was knocked out of the game by the Dark Destroyer.
By the end of the episode, only two players were left to go against Shaun but after scoring 13 in the final round, were beat by the Chaser and missed out on a share of £8,000.
It comes after The Chase fans were left fuming after two surprising moments unfolded during Tuesday’s episode.
During the latest episode of the ITV show, Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants: Binesh, Tash, Omar, and Annabelle, who were eager to test their general knowledge.
The quartet faced off against Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, who was in top form, managing to catch the first player, Binesh.
But Binesh wasn’t the only unlucky contestant during the intense quiz.
As the game progressed, Anne also managed to catch Tash and Omar, leaving Annabelle to face the final cash-builder round alone.

With everything on the line, the contestant boldly chose the highest offer of £80,000 following an impressive round.
She then stunned viewers by securing the full amount for the prize pot and making it to the final chase on her own.
Despite answering an impressive 20 questions, victory slipped through her fingers in the final moments.
Anne managed to catch her in the last few moments, leaving her devastated and going home empty-handed.
The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
