Movie fans couldn’t contain their excitement after a classic 90s film confirmed an epic return 28 years after its debut.
I Know What You Did Last Summer, loosely based on Lois Duncan’s novel of the same name, hit the big screens in 1997.
The movie became a huge hit and according to Box Office Mojo, the film is the ‘seventh highest-grossing slasher film as of 2021’.
And now fans will be happy to know that there is a prequel in the making, which will follow on from the 1998 movie I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
It is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing and produced by Columbia Pictures.
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt is reprising her role as Julie James.

And Freddie Prinze Jr. will also be taking on the role of Ray Bronson again.
They will also be joined by Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Chase Sui Wonders, Billy Campbell, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Austin Nichols.
Production for the highly-anticipated film started in October 2024 and filming wrapped up last month.
It will be released in the US on July 18 and marks the fourth entry into the franchise.
The synopsis reads: ‘When five friends inadvertently cause a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences.
‘A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.
‘As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Mᴀssacre of 1997 for help.’

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was released in 1998, followed by I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer in 2006.
Fans of the franchise are beyond excited and can’t wait to see it.
