Busy Philipps got candid about her 25-year friendship with Michelle Williams – including the ‘moments’ the stars felt they ‘might not recover from.’ 

The White Chicks actress, 45 – who has been romantically linked to Emmy-winning director Jon Kasbe – opened up about her close bond with the Blue Valentine star, 44, during an interview with Page Six.     

The pair first crossed paths in the 1990s while filming the hit teen drama series Dawson’s Creek – and quickly became close pals. 

‘We just know each other and get each other in such a deep, fundamental way at this point,’ Philipps expressed to the outlet in an article published on Saturday. 

She added that both she and Williams have experienced ‘so many different moments in each other’s lives’ – from both ‘wonderful ones’ to ones they thought they ‘might never, ever recover from.’

However, Busy gushed, ‘When you have a friend like that, you’re blessed. That’s all you can really ever hope for in this life.’

After meeting on Dawson’s Creek, both Philipps and Williams have been spotted together on various occasions. 

The two stars also attend red carpet events together which Busy has previously talked about in the past. 

During an interview with Elle back in 2017, the Freaks And Geeks actress discussed the reasoning behind the pair going to events together. 

‘For the most part, these awards shows, while they are fun, they’re high pressure for the people who are nominated, and for those walking the red carpet.’ 

Philipps continued, ‘It’s just great to have somebody that can be your touchstone for reality.

‘Maybe I’m giving away a secret, but we always try right before we get to one of these red carpets to just look at each other and say, “Don’t forget how lucky we are. This is our life now.”‘ 

She also expressed the importance of not focusing on toxic relationships as you get older. 

‘In your early 20s, it was maybe acceptable to have a friend who was taking all of your time and energy, and exhausting you, and always a drama. 

However, Busy gushed, ‘When you have a friend like that, you’re blessed. That’s all you can really ever hope for in this life’

‘When you’re in your 30s or you’re starting to have babies, you just can’t put up with it anymore, and that’s okay, because I think your priorities shift. So it’s great if you can recognize that kind of earlier – what is tolerable for you, and what isn’t.’

In 2022, Busy told Page Six, ‘It makes it fun. These things can be a little…I don’t know if you ever really get used to being on a red carpet.

‘It’s a little overwhelming, but then all of a sudden, I look over and see this gal, and I know whatever happens, we’re going to have a great time and laugh.’ 

And last year while talking to Real Simple for the publication’s cover story, she also reflected on her friendship with Michelle. 

‘I’m always in interviews where they’re like, “Talk to us about your long friendship with Michelle Williams.” I don’t know. We’re friends! What is so hard for people to understand? What is so hard about people maintaining friendships?’

Both stars are also parents with Williams being mom to three children including her eldest Matilda, 18 – whom she welcomed with the late Heath Ledger. She also shares two children with husband Thomas Kail whom she tied the knot with in 2020. 

Busy is mom to Birdie, 16, and Cricket, 11 – whom she shares with ex-husband Marc Silverstein. The pair were married from 2007 through 2021.

Both Busy and Michelle starred in the teen drama Dawson’s Creek which aired for six seasons from 1998 through 2003. 

Other stars that appeared in the show include James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson, Chad Michael Murray and Meredith Monroe. 

The premise followed: ‘Two childhood best friends, Dawson (Van Der Beek) and Joey (Holmes), go through different stages of adolescence together. Their friendship is later tested when they both start a relationship with different people,’ per IMDB. 

Last year in November, James revealed that he has stage three colon cancer – which he had been diagnosed with in 2023. 

And while talking to Us Weekly this week, Busy Philipps shared that she has reunion plans with some Dawson’s Creek cast members to support Van Der Beek amid his cancer journey. 

‘We’re really trying to figure something out, but there are a couple of people who have some work things that cannot be moved,’ she said. 

‘It’s like playing chess, trying to get everybody’s schedules to align. I’m very hopeful that at some point we will.’ 

She added, ‘Everybody is, and I’m so glad to see and hear from James – and I know he posted on Instagram that he’s feeling well – and we just have all been really sending him every ounce of good wishes and prayers and hoping for the best.’

Philipps also told the outlet that the actor has ‘an incredible family and wife and all of his children.’ 

The actress has been keeping busy and has also celebrated California Pizza Kitchen’s 40th anniversary – a restaurant chain she previously worked at before landing a major role in Freaks And Geeks. 

‘Well, listen, I think your 40s are incredible. I think that we’ve got to all embrace it and get over the idea that it’s anything to feel shame about or that you would want to try to hide your age because, at this point honey, you’ve lasted 40 years,’ Busy told Us Weekly.

‘That is something to celebrate, and the fact that after all these years, CPK is still killing it, still doing the pizzas [and its] original barbecue chicken pizza still is so delicious.’
