Lewis Capaldi gives a thumbs up during rare public appearance at a wrestling match – days after pal issued health update amid his career hiatus due to Tourette’s battle

Lewis Capaldi looked in good health as he gave a thumbs up while attending a wrestling match in London on Friday night during a break from his music career.

The star announced he would be taking a break away from the spotlight for his mental health after performing at Glastonbury in June 2023 where he struggled with his Tourette’s symptoms.

And just days after his pal issued a health update for the singer, 28, Lewis was seen during a rare public appearance while enjoying the WWE SmackDown event at London’s O2 Arena.

In an image shared to Netflix’s X account, wrestling fan Lewis flashed a small smile as he joined hundreds of fans in taking in the action in the ring.

Dressed in a black zip-up sports jacket, the Someone You Loved hitmaker appeared to be enjoying himself during the night out, with the sporting event seeing wrestling bouts including LA Knight vs. Braun Strowman in a United States Championship Match and Pretty ᴅᴇᴀᴅly vs. The Street Profits in the WWE Tag Team Championship Match.

Lewis has often shown his love for wrestling, with the star even dressing up as iconic wrestler Booker T in 2023 to celebrate his track Wish You The Best becoming his fifth Number One single.

Fans were quick to share their excitement at seeing Lewis out and about at the wrestling amid his step back from the spotlight.

Taking to X, they penned: ‘Lewis Capaldi is back on our screens since 2023. This feels so good man welcome back Lewis.’

‘Lewis Capaldi on Smackdown. Big Pop. What a dude.’

‘Not seen him for a while, good to see he is looking great tbh.’

Meanwhile, in a new interview, Lewis’ friend Yungblud, 27, has told how the singer is sounding great’, before confirming that he is working on ‘new music’.

Yungblud, who’s been firm friends with the Before You Go hitmaker prior to them both finding fame, also told how Lewis is getting his mental health back on track after he previously told how his break was to get his ‘mental and physical health in order’.

He told The Sun: ‘I have heard his new music and it sounds great. He is getting his mental health right.’

YungBlud, real name Dominic Harrison, continued: ‘I love him, as me and him have been on this ride together. We experienced it at the same time and he is perhaps the only friend who knows what I am going through, in the same way I know what he’s going through.’

The singer, who recently released new single Hello Heaven, Hello, added that he’s ‘really close’ with Lewis and his pal gave him advice about performing a ballad on his new album.

During his performance at Glastonbury in 2023, Lewis was coming out of a three-week mental health hiatus he had taken to ‘rest and recover’.

Returning to the stage, the singer admitted he had been ‘s**t scared’ to perform as he opened up about his mental health struggles, and confirmed he would be taking another break away from the spotlight after the show.

In the middle of his set, Lewis confessed that he was struggling with his Tourette’s as he said his voice had ‘packed it in’, after he had been coughing throughout the show.

Tourette’s is a neurological condition characterised by a combination of involuntary noises and movements called tics, and can cause speech and voice abnormalities.

Despite his struggles, Lewis insisted on continuing with his set and his supportive fans rallied around him, with the show coming to an emotional close as the crowds sang Someone You Love for him.

The heartwarming moment saw Lewis walk across the Pyramid Stage and sing short bursts of the track, while the kind crowds sang at the top of their voices to support the star.

After his performance, Lewis took to his social media to say: ‘The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write.

‘I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out.

‘But the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so I can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.

‘I’m so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve.

‘Playing for you every night is all I’ve ever dreamed of, so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I possibly can.’

WHAT IS TOURETTE’S SYNDROME?

Tourette’s syndrome is a neurological condition characterised by a combination of involuntary noises and movements called tics.

It usually starts during childhood and continues into adulthood. Tics can be either be vocal or physical.

In many cases Tourette’s syndrome runs in families and it’s often ᴀssociated with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Tourette’s syndrome is named after the French doctor, Georges Gilles de la Tourette, who first described the syndrome and its symptoms in the 19th century.

There’s no cure for Tourette’s syndrome, but treatment can help to control the symptoms.
