Good Morning Britain viewers blast ITV for ‘lowering their standards’ with ‘really dangerous’ Jack Fincham interview defending ‘beautiful’ dog that attacked two people

Good Morning Britain viewers have blasted ITV for ‘lowering their standards’ with a ‘really dangerous’ interview with Jack Fincham defending his ‘beautiful’ dog that attacked two people.

The 33-year-old, who sH๏τ to fame on Love Island in 2018, appeared on the breakfast programme to open up about his battle with addiction and share an update on his cane corso Elvis – which injured runner Robert Sudell in Swanley, Kent, in September 2022, as well as another incident in EsSєx last year.

Reality star Jack successfully overturned his six-week jail sentence after appealing against his conviction for owning a dangerously out-of-control dog, and the pooch is now back home in EsSєx after being in police kennels for eight months.

Jack told hosts Charlotte Hawkins and Adil Ray: ‘I hold my hands up – by the way, Elvis is the most beautiful dog.

‘I’ve never seen him show any signs of aggression.’

He continued: ‘They’re a very protective breed of dog so I completely hold my hands up. I should have just made sure that the door was closed behind me.

‘I walked out and in the first instance it was to get something out of my mum’s car and the second incident, it was getting something out the boot of the car again.

‘He just slipped behind me. But he’s got great recall.

‘Both times I called him back and he came straight away. In both instances, it was my mistake – I should have kept the door closed, it’s not fair on them and I can only apologise for it.’

Elsewhere in the interview Jack – who has now been sober since Christmas Day – touched upon his battle with addiction to booze and drugs.

He explained: ‘They all went hand in hand. If you’re drinking, you do other stuff, unfortunately you want to go to sleep, you take something else. It becomes a cycle.

‘I didn’t realise it was problem until it was brought the public and more people are telling me “What are you doing?”‘

Adil pointed out that he had managed to blow £1 million to fund his habit.

Jack, who was drug driving in 2021, replied: ‘As a ball-park figure its painful to say it. It’s around that mark.

‘The night out, when I was living at home, I don’t want to go back home, [so I’d] stay in a H๏τel.

‘As a whole, that figure. I’m just glad that’s a thing of the past. I’m not saying I wont always have these issues.

‘I’ve addressed them… All I can do is take it day by day.’

The interview has received a range of different comments on social medial.

Some viewers felt that it was too soon to be scrutinised under his battle with addiction.

One wrote on X: ‘@itv @GMB it’s not advisable for an addict in early recovery to “give the main share in an AA meeting” & certainly not be thrust back into the limelight on daytime TV. Jack Fincham needs to focus on his recovery & highs (such as a TV appearance) boost ego – it’s really dangerous.’

Many viewers rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to give their thoughts on the interview with the Love Island star

Another wrote: ‘If every in a down moment. Say I’ve been this long I can go just another minute then another & so on. I hope that helps. Talking helps. Congratulations 3 months & still going strong you can do it. Love your dog. Remember all dogs can bite.’

However others felt that the segment wasn’t worthy of airtime.

One tweeted: ‘I wish we could get refunded on the time taken. Who gives a flying f**k about this muppet. I hope he stays clean and keeps selling pencils. I don’t need to know about him. Most pointless interview.’

Another said: ‘Stop giving these people airtime. I don’t care about them. They appear on a reality show and suddenly, channels like yours, treat them like a film star. They’re not.’

Meanwhile others felt that he played down the actions of his dangerous dog.

‘Not done yourself any favours here Jack!,’ one wrote.

A second questioned: ‘@GMB Why would Jack Fincham want or need a dog like that?’

‘I liked Jack on#LoveIsland but this mornings interview has done nothing to persuade me that he hasn’t turned into a serious numpty. #GMB#JackFincham,’ a third added.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV1 from 6am and is available to stream on ITVX.
