Adolescence star you barely saw on screen is set for super stardom: Fans go wild for 14-year-old Sheffield singer Emilia Holliday after discovering she played Katie

Her screen time in Adolescence was confined to appearing in two pH๏τos and being seen in grainy CCTV footage, but actress Emilia Holliday looks set to become another breakout star of the Netflix hit – alongside Owen Cooper.

The actress, 14, from Sheffield, plays schoolgirl Katie Leonard who is brutally murdered by classmate Jamie and while her appearance in the show is fleeting, fans have tipped Emilia to land a host of new roles after her secret involvement in every episode was revealed.

She now boasts more than 70,000 followers on TikTok, with fans rushing to her social media to heap praise on the budding star, especially since it’s emerged that she played a greater role in the series than viewers initially realised.

The show’s creators have revealed that she sang a haunting solo in a cover version of Sting’s Fragile, at the end of episode 2 and that her vocals were also incorporated in the finale’s closing track, Through The Eyes Of A Child by Norwegian singer Aurora.

Emilia herself has been overwhelmed by the global reaction to the show, taking to Instagram to share: ‘So happy to be a small part of this amazing show!! Forever grateful to have worked with such amazing people, the best experience ever.’

And fans will not have long to wait to see her on screen after she revealed that she has a part in the upcoming BBC drama The Reunion, alongside Rose Ayling-Ellis and Anne-Marie Duff.

‘I genuinely believe big things are on the horizon for this extremely talented young lady, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for her.’

Viewers were left shocked when it emerged she secretly appeared at the end of episode two, when Jamie’s dad Eddie (Stephen Graham) was laying flowers down to pay his respects.

Netflix’s official X account shared a video of actor Stephen explaining the shocking revelation.

Revealing the in a voice over talking above the actual scene, Stephen explained: ‘There’s a beautiful song at the end and Phil had this wonderful idea from the very beginning.

‘He said what he wanted to do was have a choir and voice of young kids singing this particular song that he had in his head from the get go, actually.

‘But the beautiful process of it is, is that we used the choir from the actual school, and the kids from that area.’

He continued: ‘The girl singing this is the girl who played the girl that got killed.’

Over the weekend Adolescence made British TV history, becoming the first streaming show ever to become the most-watched programme of the week.

While Emilia has no other acting jobs in the work at present, as per IMDB, she could also find success with a singing career after recording the song used at the end of episode two

The drama has captivated audiences and critics since it hit Netflix earlier this month, with each episode filmed in a single continuous take.

While the show is already being tipped for a string of BAFTA nominations, figures published by ratings body BARB on Sunday showed that the first episode was watched by 6.45 million people in its first week.

It has since built on its huge success, topping Netflix’s English TV series list this week with 42 million views.

Since its launch, the show has amᴀssed 66.3 million views, making it the most-watched limited series and most-watched UK тιтle ever through its first two weeks, with a huge 161,000,000 hours viewed.

Coming in at number two on the English TV list this week was The Residence, the latest series from Shondaland, whilst The Electric State maintained its hold on the number one slot on the English films list, with 22.5 million views.

The four-episode programme follows the Miller family, whose lives are torn apart when their 13-year-old son Jamie is arrested for stabbing a female classmate to death after being influenced by online misogyny.

Top Boy legend Ashley Walters takes on the role of DI Luke Bascombe and Erin Doherty plays psychiatrist Briony Ariston.

After his devastating performance as schoolboy Jamie, Owen is tipped for silver-screen success – and been compared to a young Leonardo DiCaprio.

Meanwhile, actor Stephen, who co-wrote the script, has described finding Owen as the ‘biggest achievement’ of the four-part series.

You can stream all four episodes of Adolescence on Netflix.
