Lorraine Kelly was branded ‘patronising’ for ‘talking to Alex Warren like he’s a baby’ as he recounted the loss of his dad and homelessness in an emotional interview on Thursday.
The American chart-topping singer, 24, celebrated his first number-one this week with his new single Ordinary.
But in an emotive interview on ITV’s Lorraine, the star opened up about his past, which saw viewers slam Lorraine for ‘speaking to him like he is a baby’.
Alex opened up about the pᴀssing of his father, homelessness and how his late alcoholic mother was abusive to him.
Alex’s father, whose name he has kept private, died from kidney cancer when he was just nine years old.
The star was then kicked out of his home by his mother when he was just 18 years old – rendering him homeless.

His mother then died in 2021 from kidney and renal failure after years of suffering from alcohol addiction.
During the interview, he told Lorraine: ‘I just knew something was going to work out. My dad pᴀssed away when I was young and my mum was an alcoholic, who was abusive.
‘My mum was an amazing person but…’, he went on before Lorraine interrupted him, stating: ‘Oh, I am so sorry, love’.
Carrying on his sentence, Alex said: ‘She was drunk. And she tended to be drunk more than she was sober.
‘And it was something interesting though because everything I went through, I wouldn’t have my wife, I wouldn’t have this career. I wouldn’t have a story to talk about.’
Nodding her head, Lorraine replied: ‘Sure, that is a great way to look at it’, to which Alex went to respond, saying it was insane before Lorraine cut him off again, stating: ‘It really is’.
Continuing his story, Alex explained that during his shows, he asks his fans if they relate to his songs about losing a parent, which many do, and calls it a ‘moving moment’.
But some viewers didn’t appreciate the tone of the chat and branded Lorraine ‘patronising’.

After trying to explain his back story and have a few interruptions, viewers were left furious as they branded the show host ‘patronising’
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one penned: ‘The patronising tone, talking to him like he’s a baby. #lorraine’

However another was more positive, gushing: ‘Lorraine is interviewing Alex Warren. Crossover of the century.’
Alex originally rose to fame through social media as he launched his career on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
He is also a the co-founder of the creator collective The Hype House and built his fan base on his content of him in the house documenting pranks and challenges.
