Leomie, who was made the first ever black Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2019, recently starred on the hit Netflix show Celebrity Bear Hunt, where she was one of the 12 famous faces taking on challenges in Costa Rica alongside adventurer Bear Grylls.
Speaking ahead of the series, Leomie revealed that it is not her first time facing difficult challenges, as she opened up on becoming the guardian of her cousins when she was just 28-years-old.
She explained how she ‘became a parent overnight’ to her two young relatives, aged 15 and 10 at the time.
She said: ‘I would say probably one of the most challenging experiences of my life was becoming the guardian of my cousins for two years.
‘That was very challenging, but also very rewarding because I basically became a parent overnight.
‘It taught me a lot of skills that I’ll bring to Bear Hunt like patience, resilience, understanding, working as a team, working with your community as well.’
Leomie added that her cousins had stayed until last May, after arriving in 2021, saying: ‘They only just left last year in May and I was 28 when they came in.’
She explained that she had decided to take part in Celebrity Bear Hunt to show breakdown stereotypes about models and also for her father, who tragically lost his battle against cancer in December 2022.

She said: ‘I decided to take on the challenge of Bear Hunt because I feel like people have this perception of what a model is and what we’re capable of doing.
‘They think that we care so much about how we look and that we’re not smart. I really want to shatter those stereotypes.
‘And also, to do it for my dad who pᴀssed away two Christmases ago. And I know that this is something that he would have been really proud of me doing.
