Anna Maxwell Martin has hinted that the hugely popular show Line Of Duty may return for another series.
The BBC police drama aired for six seasons and seemed to have wrapped up in 2021, but many fans have been holding out hope for a seventh season.
Now, the English actress, 47, who played DCS Patricia Carmichael, has addressed the ongoing rumours about a possible seventh season.
When asked by Metro if there are any updates on the rumours, Anna gave a vague and cryptic response, saying she couldn’t reveal anything specific.
She simply quipped: ‘I would be killed by a sniper over there, so…’
While the BBC has yet to confirm any plans for a reboot, other stars of the show, including Martin Compston, 40, and Adrian Dunbar, 66, have shared their thoughts on the return rumours.

Recently, Martin, who played Steve Arnott, claimed there was ‘nothing coming soon’ regarding a new season.
Opening up about a potential future season, Martin added that it would be up to the show’s creator, Jed Mercurio, saying: ‘I trust Jed implicitly and, if he decided it wasn’t right for it to come back, then so be it.’
He continued: ‘If he decided to kill any of us off, we’d be gutted. We’d only do it for what’s best for the show, and if that was his decision, then that would be it.
‘What’s great about it at the moment is we’re not planning on doing it, but it’s nice knowing it’s ‘out there’. That’s a lovely feeling.’
Meanwhile, last year, Adrian, who portrayed Ted Hastings, gave a more optimistic response.
When asked whether the show will return, he said: ‘I hope so. (It) looks like it. All the signals and everything is kind of (positive) but as somebody said, until the script hits the desk, you can’t be 100% sure.’
All six seasons of Line Of Duty are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
Anna received the Leading Actress award for her role in the crime series Until I Kill You, at the 2025 Royal Television Society Awards on Tuesday night, where she delivered a hilarious acceptance speech.

Upon taking to the stage to accept her award, Anna admitted she was already ‘hammered’ from making the most of the event’s free bar.
She said: ‘I’m p****d, I’ve had so many drinks, so this is going to be hard!’ later adding: ‘I’m hammered, these things go on for a long time!’
She went on to pay tribute to both the cast and crew of Until I Kill You, and dedicated her award to her ‘former mentor and sometime husband, Roger Mitchell,’ who pᴀssed away in 2021, a year after their separation.
