The trailer for Alec Baldwin’s controversial western Rust was unveiled on Wednesday – nearly four years after the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins shut down production.

In it, the 66-year-old Oscar nominee’s aging outlaw character Harland Rust uttered the ironic line ‘Somethings in this life you can’t get back, I reckon’ to his orphaned 13-year-old grandson Lucas McCalister (Patrick Scott McDermott).

Lucas accidentally kills a rancher and is sentenced to hang before Harland breaks him out of jail and takes him on the run to Mexico from US Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and bounty hunter Preacher (Travis Fimmel).

‘Heaven ain’t waiting on either one of us,’ Alec’s character warned one of the antagonists.

Guns and violence are in practically every sH๏τ of the minute-long preview for the action-packed flick set in 1880s Kansas, which feels disturbing considering six real live bullets were discovered on the troubled set.

Even Rust Movie Productions rep Melina Spadone described it as ‘a story of the ripples that a single violent act can send through generations and the hard-fought redemption to be found in a world where the line between good and evil can often be unclear.’

At the end of the teaser, Baldwin is not only listed as a producer but received a ‘story by’ credit while Halyna’s widower Matthew Hutchins received an executive producer credit, which was reportedly a stipulation in him dropping the wrongful death lawsuit.

In the YouTube comments, user @1TEXASBEACH wrote that Rust looks good thanks in part to Hutchins’ work as the DP: ‘Can’t wait to see it. So incredibly sad all that happened but Halyna Hutchins was/is so talented and you can see that in the trailer.’

While on X, user @DickMoves1971 scoffed that ‘the snuff film is getting released.’

Rust – which also stars Frances Fisher and Jake Busey – will premiere on digital and select theaters on May 2, according to People.

The Baldwins star’s involuntary manslaughter trial only lasted three days before being dismissed on July 12 after he denied ever pulling the trigger on the revolver that fired a single bullet into Rust director Joel Souza’s arm and punctured Halyna’s chest killing her in 2021.
