Chappell Roan reveals she’s in a ‘serious’ relationship with girl she dated before her sudden rise to fame and gushes she’s ‘very in love’

Chappell Roan has admitted she’s ‘very in love’ as she revealed she’s been in a ‘serious’ relationship for the past six months.

The singer, 27, opened up on her love life on the Call Her Daddy podcast, explaining that she and her unnamed girlfriend had previously dated, before she sH๏τ to stardom.

And the pop star admitted that had the couple not rekindled their romance, she would have found dating a ‘nightmare’ due to her trust issues and would be ‘terrified of their intentions’.

When asked if she was single, Chappell, whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz, revealed she had been with her girlfriend for six months, clarifying ‘it’s serious’.

She went on: ‘I’m very in love, but I am pro-single. Everyone should be single, I’m serious.

‘Be single. Stop dating. Be single. Have a great time alone. Find out for yourself if you can one hundred per cent be okay alone before you date.

‘That’s what I found out. I had a great time when I was single, and I know that I’ll be okay, and now I have an awesome time that I’m with someone.’

Giving more insight into her romance, she explained they had been set up by a mutual friend, but had already been involved in the past.

The H๏τ to Go! star said: ‘I’m usually the one who makes – like in every circumstance – I make the first move.

‘I haven’t dated someone since this all really, really blew up. I’m dating the same person that I was dating before I like blew up, so I’m not sure how I would date now.’

She confessed: ‘I think it would actually be a nightmare. I think I would be so single right now because you’re terrified of their intentions. I’m scared. I’m scared.

‘I don’t trust anyone. I just think in my head, I’m like, any new person that I’m texting, I’m like, “I’m ᴀssuming they will screensH๏τ this and send it to someone else”.’

Chappell got candid about a burgeoning romance exactly six months ago in an interview with Rolling Stone, revealing she was seeing a girl she ‘really likes’ who is ‘completely outside the industry’, but couldn’t commit because she’s ‘so avoidant’.

The Grammy winner explained: ‘I met this girl that I really like, but [I] can’t commit because I feel like no one understands me.

‘I don’t want to date another artist because they’re f***ing nuts. I’m so avoidant because I’m just like, “She’ll never get me. She’ll never get it”.’

She went on: ‘She’s so awesome and so secure in herself and [has told me] “No pressure, we can just be friends if you want”.

‘I’m just running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I’m just like, “What? I can’t get married!” It is that type of delusion right now.’

Chappell has never publicly revealed the idenтιтy of any of her previous partners, in line with her strong desire to protect her privacy.

However, she has alluded to past relationships and crushes as she’s opened up about coming to terms with her Sєxuality, from first realising she was queer to dealing with difficult break-ups and learning to navigate dating in the public eye.

She previously revealed that she was in relationship with an unknown male during the writing process of her hits Red Wine Supernova and Naked in Manhattan, dating for four and a half years.

She told The Los Angeles Times in 2023: ‘I was dating a boy then. I had never even kissed a girl when these songs were written. It was all what I wished my life could be.’

In another interview with Teen Vogue, she added: ‘[Dating a boy is] just literally not fun. It’s not fun. It’s not H๏τ. It’s not interesting. It’s boring.’

Chappell also explained that growing up in a conservative environment in Missouri led her not to explore her attraction to girls, despite first having thoughts about being queer at around 12 years old.

Recalling her thoughts at school, she said: ‘Maybe I like girls. I was like, girls are so much prettier. Girls are nicer. I like hanging out with girls more. That was in the back of my head for all of high school. I think I like girls.

‘I didn’t know how to deal with that part of myself except to make fun of it. Haha. It’s so funny. It’s a phase. Haha.’

It was moving to Los Angeles and visiting gay club, The Abbey, at the age of 21 – which inspired Pink Pony Club – that helped Chappell realise she was more interested in women.

Without revealing details about her ex, the hitmaker has also candid about dealing with the universal hardship of a difficult break-up, channelling some of the heartbreak into her music.

In a TikTok in 2022, she explained her song My Kink Is Karma was written after the ‘worst breakup I’ve ever had’.

She said: ‘I really felt like we would be together forever. But honestly it couldn’t have ended worse. So, I ended up writing this about how I feel now.’

And giving even more details about the nature of the failed romance, while performing the song at Coachella in April last year, Chappell appeared to directly address her ex.

She looked straight down the camera lens as she declared: ‘B***h I know you’re watching, and all those horrible things happening to you are karma. It’s me!’

The pop star revealed she was dating someone new in August 2023, but admitted: ‘I feel scared kissing her in public. Even though I’m in L.A., homophobia is in the back of my head. It’s liberating, but there’s a new set of problems that I didn’t know existed.’
