Charlie Sheen’s troubled ex-wife Brooke Mueller took a swipe at him in a new interview as she spoke on her battle with drug addiction.
The Witchouse actress, 47, told PEOPLE on Tuesday that Sheen — who has been sober since 2018 — doesn’t understand why she cannot ‘just stop’ using drugs.
Sheen and Mueller had a rocky marriage from 2008 to 2011 and they are parents to 16-year-old twin sons, Bob and Max.
While they share joint custody of their boys, the conditions are dependent on Mueller’s sobriety, which she’s been committed to since her 2023 relapse.
Mueller suggested that Sheen believes staying sober is down to ‘choice’ and that he has always dealt with addiction differently than she has.
‘He knows his whole addiction history, and [figures], “If I can just stop without one AA meeting or without needing any whatever, then why can’t you?”‘ she explained.
‘I think he thinks it’s more about just making a choice, and then with the addiction [mindset], sometimes we don’t have a choice. We get to a point to where we don’t have a choice.’

Mueller then recalled the times when she and Sheen were using together and how the actor could ‘shut off’ his addictive thoughts.
‘But if I look back at our marriage, he was always one that could shut it off and turn it off and go to sleep, and I would be taking the car sneaking out to Skid Row,’ the model shared.

Despite any drama between them, Mueller insisted that Sheen is her ‘first call for help’ when she needs it.
‘He gets it. He’s always there to help me and pick up the pieces,’ she gushed.
After years of struggling with drug abuse and relapsing in 2023 after remaining sober for six years, Mueller said she now classifies herself as a ‘stage four’ addict.
‘When we’re at stage four, it typically means that cycle where you just have these relapses, no matter how well you get, and no matter how many years, it’s just a matter of time. I want to be honest about it, because if I try to sugarcoat it, I’d be lying to myself,’ she told PEOPLE.
As she’s gotten older, Mueller said she has felt more ‘darkness’ and ‘shame’ around her substance abuse issues.
‘The darkness and the shame as we get older, that sticks with us even more because we have more evidence of pain that we’ve caused others and ourselves,’ she explained.

‘It’s sad for us because we don’t want this, nobody would want this. And so there’s got to be a mental health component to it, where our suffering sometimes gets so strong that we literally — our brain tricks us and rationalizes why this time it’s okay.’
She admitted that after her 2023 relapse she had another ‘slip’ as she tried to tackle her Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
The disorder is often treated with medications like Adderall and Ritalin, which are both habit-forming drugs.
‘I convinced myself that I need[ed] ADD medication,’ Mueller revealed. ‘I somehow find these excuses, and I genuinely believe them, where I’ll justify and rationalize why I need a prescription for Adderall.’
She continued: ‘The last relapse I had was on something that can be abused, and the bottle is gone in a day and a half.’
Mueller also briefly spoke on previously losing custody of her sons as she spoke on how her relapses have affected her life and those around her.
‘In some ways, I guess I’m lucky but I wouldn’t say living a life like this is any sort of great life,’ she said. ‘I’m not talking about now, but imagine you build up everything back.’
She continued: You finally gained the trust and the respect, and the kids are being dropped off in your care and then constantly throwing it all away, not even knowing why or how because you weren’t planning on it.’
She admitted that her two sons have gotten ‘used to’ her addiction issues, a situation she described as ‘unfair’ to them.
‘The sad reality, is they get used to it — Mommy is going to relapse again one day, Mueller told the outlet.
‘They’ve never tried a drink or drugs or been on a date yet. I can’t tell you what I was doing at 15. They ended up being with their group of friends that happened to be really good kids.’
She continued: ‘[Charlie and I] share custody, we co-parent without attorneys, which is great. And I’m very grateful for that. The fact he gives me yet another chance shows his deep true heart underneath.’
Sheen wed Mueller in 2008 – but their marriage was rocky as both had well-documented struggles with addiction.

During their marriage, Sheen was arrested for allegedly attacking his wife. Mueller claimed to police that the actor had held a knife to her throat and threatened her but she later tried to recant her statement.
He was arrested on three charges – second-degree ᴀssault, which is often used to describe causing actual bodily harm, menacing behavior, and criminal mischief, or damaging property. He was eventually released on bail after paying a £5,000 bond.
Ultimately, Sheen pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor ᴀssault, which kept him out of jail. He was sentenced to 30 days in rehab, 30 days of probation and 36 hours of anger management, the AP reported at the time.
A year later, the couple split. Months later, the actor engaged in a series of now infamous public meltdowns in early 2011 that led to him being fired from the his hit sitcom Two And A Half Men.
Sheen and Mueller came to a custody agreement in 2011 and finalized their divorce shortly after.
But Brooke allegedly created an ‘unsafe’ environment for the twins and they were removed from her home in 2013.
Charlie’s ex-wife Denise Richards became their legal guardian while Brooke re-entered rehab for the 21st time.
But after a year, the Wild Things star wrote to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to inform them that she could no longer look after the boys because of their alleged violent outbursts towards her daughters and dogs, as per TMZ.
In 2019, Mueller checked herself into a rehab facility once again and Sheen began co-parenting the twins with his and the actress’ parents.
Charlie commented to The Blast about Mueller being in rehab, saying that their twin sons were well-cared for between him and their grandparents.
‘Brooke is currently tucked away, (yet again!) for the umpteen billionth time, seeking the help she needs,’ Sheen told the outlet.

‘Between myself, and the boys’ two amazing sets of Grandparents, we continue to seamlessly love shelter and protect Bob and Max, from the haphazard choices and unsightly behavior their mom refuses to extinguish once and for all.’
Sheen said that ‘these wonderful boys need their mom … and hopefully one day soon, they will finally have one … until then, on every front we got this.’
Last year Sheen and Mueller resolved their years-long child support case after Charlie had filed a request to pay less to his children in 2018.
‘I have been unable to find steady work and have been blacklisted from many aspects of the entertainment industry,’ said Sheen at the time, who estimated that he paid both Mueller and Richards around 9.5 percent of his annual gross income.
Sheen said in court docs that the professional issues had ‘resulted in a significant reduction in [his] earnings.’
In 2023, Sheen claimed he is a ‘single father’ to his twin sons and that their mother is ‘not in the picture too much right now.’
He told People: ‘I’ve mostly been raising my 14-year-old boys. Their mom has been trying to figure some stuff out on her end, so she’s not in the picture too much right now.’
