Hayley Atwell has revealed she had a clash with a top Marvel filmmaker on the set of Doctor Strange.
The actress, 42, stars as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and also had a cameo as an alternate Captain America in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
She has previously referred to her cameo as ‘frustrating’ and has now spoken out about a disagreement she had with a top official who worked on the movie.
Speaking on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast, Hayley claimed that she tried to give the official a note on the scene’s lighting but he didn’t react well to her advice.
‘When I got on to the Doctor Strange set, I was sat there with my suit on and my jet pack and I had my shield and I remember looking at the frame and going ”the lighting is quite harsh”,’ she shared.
‘I remember going up to a lovely person who was in a very high position there – I won’t name and shame – and I said ”can I offer you a possibility that I come in from that side and do that line there”.

‘I just came in with an offering technically, which I love doing because a lot of directors will go ”oh great, try something”.’
However, Hayley said the official then gave an awkward reply about her advice, prompting her to double down on her words.
‘In this instance he went ”oh sure Hayley, I’ll just tell our Oscar-winning editor that you have some choices you’ll like to make and don’t you worry about that, I’ll make sure he gets a memo”,’ she said.
‘I went ”considering he’s an Oscar-winning editor, he will know a good idea when he sees one, so I’m sure he will enjoy listening to what I have to say to make the scene better”.’
‘And [he laughed] and went ”I’m just kidding, I’m just bullying you, don’t worry” and I went, ”you can’t bully me, I’ve got a jet pack on”.’
After the official insisted he was only joking, Hayley said they both ‘chuckled’ over the disagreement but insisted that her advice still made the scene ‘better’.
‘It was better, and it worked! It was better,’ she added.
Hayley has previously voiced her frustration over the fact that her version of Captain America was immediately killed off in the 2022 Doctor Strange movie.

The cameo sees Peggy appear as an alternate version of Captain America from another universe, but she is immediately killed during a battle with Scarlet Witch.
Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hayley insisted it was not her choice for her character to be eradicated so quickly.
‘I’m like, ”That wasn’t my choice!” she said. ‘When she was like, ”I could do this all day” and then followed by she’s immediately cut in half by a frisbee.
‘And the audience being like, ”She can’t do it all day. Apparently you can’t, so, egg on your face”. That doesn’t really serve Peggy very well.’
‘It felt like a frustrating moment in Strange,’ she added.
The Mission: Impossible star said her voice role on What If…? was far more rewarding than her ‘frustrating’ cameo in Doctor Strange.
‘I felt like I had much more to do in the What If…? animation series,’ she explained. ‘I mean, any actor will tell you, to be able to go into a booth in effectively your pajamas and do an animation is great fun because you’re focused on the voice as the instrument and your main performative tool.’
