99 To Beat viewers have two big complaints as Ryan and Adam Thomas’ new ITV game show kicks off – ditching it just minutes into premiere

99 To Beat viewers shared two big complaints as Ryan and Adam Thomas’ new ITV game show kicked off – and they ditched it just minutes into the premiere.

The eight-part programme, hosted by the brothers, landed on the channel on at 6pm on Saturday night.

100 players go head-to-head in a number of games to win the cash prize of £25,000.

There’s only one rule that they have to follow – and it’s that they don’t come last.

But during the first instalment, some rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts on what they were watching.

While some said they were going to turn it off, others thought that Corrie’ Ryan and Emmerdale’s Adam should have been interacting with the players much more than they did.

One pointed out: ‘Adam and Ryan are not being used the best way in this programme, would be better to have them down with the contestants and maybe chat to them.’

Another chimed in: ‘Scrap the soundtrack, self narration, contestant backstory (we don’t care). Give us a crowd, commentator as opposed to picture in picture of the Thomas bros. If they did this, it would be so much better. What a pile of tosh.’

And others thought that it’s too similar to Netflix’s hit show Squid Games – but not in a very positive way.

One said on the social media platform: ‘Oh ok, so #99ToBeat is a fluffy Squid Games for Saturday night TV.’

‘If you ordered squid games off the temu app#99ToBeat.’

‘Really not sure about this show… guess just a cheapsquidgames#99ToBeat.’

‘So this is basically Squid Game without the killing (sadly) #99ToBeat.’

Squid Games hit the streaming service back in 2021 and has had two successful series.

It follows the lives of a group of people who go to a remote Island and battle it out to win $45.6 billion.

The twist is that each round sees a number of the contestants killed off in brutal ways.

The news of 99 to Beat was announced back in June last year.

At the time Adam and Ryan said: ‘It’s new, it’s fresh, it’s fun and we can’t wait for people to see it!

‘It really is the ultimate family show, and so we couldn’t be more excited to be hosting it together, as a family.

‘It’s a dream come true for us.

‘We can already imagine people at home playing these games with their families as it’s fun/silly/compeтιтive and heartfelt.’

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning ITV, said: ‘With their infectious laughs and undeniable warmth, I couldn’t think of anyone more befitting than Adam and Ryan Thomas to front this exciting new series.

‘With them at the helm, 99 to Beat is sure to be a supremely entertaining watch.’

And managing director of Initial, Katy Manley, added: ‘I’m really excited about bringing this format to the UK.

‘It’s so warm, funny and unique – we’re looking forward to finding some brilliant contestants, and to working with Adam and Ryan who will bring their fantastic chemistry and contagious energy to the show.’

99 to Beat has been produced by Initial.

99 to Beat is available to stream now on ITVX.
