Kate Brazier has shown her love for her stepson Freddy and detailed the ‘many challenges he’s faced’ – after his dad Jeff reportedly launched legal action to ‘keep him safe’ from his gran Jackiey Budden. 

In a new post on Sunday Kate revealed how the death of her beloved dog Mabel has made her more empathetic to her stepsons Bobby and Freddy’s grief.

Freddy, 20, and Bobby, 21, lost their mother Jade Goody as young kids – with the Big Brother star tragically dying in 2009 from cervical cancer aged just 27.

Their stepmother Kate – who is married to their presenter dad Jeff, 45, – has had a difficult few months after losing her pet who she says was the ‘greatest gift of her life.’

And in a new post this weekend she said she has learnt from her grief and explained how it has made her better able to take care of the boys – amid the reported drama with Jackiey.

She penned: ‘One of the biggest things this grief has left me with, if I am being really honest, is much more empathy for other people who have had life changing loss. None more so than these two boys.

‘If how I have felt most days for the last four months (furious with the world and like I want to tear my way out of my skin so I don’t have to feel what I’m feeling) is anything to go by, then I cannot begin to imagine how they have felt losing the most important person in their life.

’16 years ago today they lost their mum. It’s always a tough day.

‘5 years later I turned up, at just 24, without a clue what I was doing or how to help. I wish I knew then what I know now. 

‘I understand so much better some of the challenges we have faced (and there have been many!) and I can absolutely see where they get their empathy, kindness and understanding of others from. I can only hope to have half of that. Sending love to anyone grieving.’

She shared sweet snaps cuddling with both Freddy and Bobby to accompany her thoughtful words. 

Last November Kate shared that her dog Mabel had pᴀssed away in an emotional Instagram post. 

She said at the time: ‘Rest in peace baby pig. I hope you know how deeply loved you were. I will miss you every day forever. It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be your mum.’

According to The Sun Jeff is now attempting to block any contact between his youngest son and grandmother, 68, claiming the relationship has been ‘incredibly detrimental’.

He is also said to have hired a top barrister for the upcoming hearings with a source insisting Jeff’s actions prove just how ‘concerned’ he is.

They told the publication: ‘This is something Jeff and anyone who cares about Freddy hopes will help keep Freddy safe from a relationship that has been incredibly detrimental to his well being for a long time now.

‘The fact that he is going down this route shows how concerned we all our and how our efforts to keep Fred safe are being grossly undermined by other people’.

MailOnline have contacted Jeff’s representatives for comment. 

In 2021, Bobby confirmed in an Instagram video that he was back in contact with his nan after losing touch.

He said: ‘I didn’t see her for ages – for way too long – but I went to see her twice recently.

‘And honestly if there’s one woman you shouldn’t underestimate it’s my nan. Honestly, she’s like a wizard! It’s nuts.’

During their appearance on Celebrity Race Across The World last year, Freddy had to fight back tears after admitting he struggled to grow up following the death of his mother. 

The reality star opened up to his father during an episode of the game show and revealed the effects of of the loss. 

Jeff told Freddy: ‘What you teach me is what I always need to be reminded and that is to be less serious.’

Freddy then continued, speaking to the camera he says: ‘When me and Bobby lost our mum he had a big responsibility two very young boys who were grieving an that’s not very fun.’

Freddy then replied: ‘I feel like I haven’t given myself the time to grow up because I’ve been holding on to a lot of things that happened to me as a kid.

‘I guess that’s why I’ve still got a playful side.’

Jeff said: ‘You have a wonderful nature, instantly forgiving, wonderfully care free.

‘I often describe you as a better person than me.’

Friends of the family said Jackiey and Jeff, who has looked after the boys since Jade’s death, fell out some years back and have not been able to repair their relationship.

In 2023 Jackiey was banned from attending the Strictly final, where Bobby was pipped to the post by Ellie Leach, amid her ongoing feud with Jeff. 

One friend told the Mail at the time: ‘Jeff and Jackiey haven’t got on for a long time and it has been hard. It has meant that Jackiey hasn’t been able to be in the audience to watch Bobby, things are just too bad between her and his father…

‘He and his brother Freddy are her only grandchildren and she adores them, there is nothing she would love more than to be there to watch him live.’

Jack Tweed also said at the time that Jade would want her mum to be at the studio to watch Bobby dance on one of the biggest television events of the year.

Jade’s ex-husband added that Jackiey had ‘an absolute right’ to watch her grandson after she was banned amid her feud with Jeff – who she said had been a ‘c**k for nine years’ in an interview with MailOnline.

Jack, 37, who helped bring up Bobby with mum Jade before she died called for Jackiey to be allowed to watch.

He told MailOnline at the time: ‘I think it’s only right Jackiey can go to the final. She has played a big part in Bobby’s childhood.

‘I know it’s what Jade would want. She would want peace and everybody to get along.

In September that year, she secretly got tickets to the National Television Awards to watch Bobby get a Rising Star gong for playing Freddie Slater in EastEnders.

Jackiey addressed the row with Jeff when speaking to MailOnline, she said: ‘When I came out for the NTA Awards, I’m loud and it’s the drink and someone went ‘oh I bet you’re really proud’ and ‘how do you get on with Jeff Brazier’ and I said ‘he’s a c**k’.

‘Next minute I’m on the internet and all over the papers. As I came out of the O2, someone overheard me say it, so they sold the story.’

When asked if she said it and why, Jackiey fumed: ‘Of course I said it. I haven’t got a problem with (calling him that).

‘He’s been a c**k for f****** nine years.

‘Bobby doesn’t need that stress on his head. He’s my grandson.’
