Adolescence’s Owen Cooper has revealed the chilling eight words that his co-star Stephen Graham used to rile him up before filming their one-take episodes.
The 15-year-old sH๏τ to fame earlier this month after taking on the role of school boy Jamie Miller in the Netflix drama.
The crime drama series, written and created by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, explores the important issue of toxic masculinity in today’s society.
Owen’s alter-ego Jamie is accused of killing his female classmate – and the show follows the aftermath of when the police burst into his family home to arrest him.
And the young star has explained how his co-star Stephen, who plays his on-screen dad Eddie Miller, helped him get into character.
Speaking with Variety, Owen said: ‘Obviously Stephen was always checking in on me.

‘But there was a time in episode one, when it was just us two, with no camera, in the police cell, and he scruffed me up and said “you’re never going to see your mum again, you’re never going to see your dad again,” and was going on and on.
‘Before then I’d been frustrated because I hadn’t been getting emotional.
‘But after that point I was emotional in every take. So that helped me a lot.
‘He was amazing to work with.’
Adolescence is Owen’s first ever show – and fans have begged for him to receive a BAFTA for his work.
Speaking about his acting experience with the publication, he admitted: ‘Literally nothing.
‘I only really wanted to start acting a couple of years ago.
‘It’s not been long. I grew up wanting to be a footballer. I don’t know what it was that made me want to do it, but I just wanted to do it.
‘And then I went to lessons and enjoyed it.

‘And then I got into a little agency thing, and then I got a self-tape request for Adolescence. And everything came from that really.’
It comes after Adolescence’s writer has confirmed that there IS an answer to the Netflix drama’s biggest unsolved mystery that ‘left fans hanging’ after the final episode.
Many of those who have watched the four-part drama are desperate to know where the knife is that killed Jamie’s classmate.
Jack Thorne told ᴅᴇᴀᴅline: ‘There is a real joy in how partial this show was able to be. It was written in a really partial way, we couldn’t cover all corners.
‘For instance, episode two has a whole question going through it, of where is the knife? That’s why DI Luke Bascombe (Ashley Walters) is there.

‘We cannot answer that. We don’t answer that.
‘I could have tried to fit it into dialogue in episode three, but that would have felt inauthentic and wrong.’
He added: ‘The audience understands the rhythm that we’re in as dramatists.
‘An audience has certain expectations as to what will happen when that has been embedded in the backs of their heads through watching drama as long as we all have.
‘What this show can do through the one-sH๏τ format is challenge those expectations in a different way.’
Some fans have also spotted a major clue that ‘gives away’ Jamie’s fate just minutes into the groundbreaking Netflix drama.
One took to TikTok to point out something that has blown a lot of viewers’ minds.
They shared a clip from the first episode, when the police burst into Jamie’s family home to arrest him for the murder and Jamie is in bed in his bedroom.
The schoolboy looks scared as the police surround him and he places his hand on the wall, where part of the wallpaper has come off, and some think that the mark looks like a knife.

A source told The Sun: ‘Execs are thrilled by the results and acclaim for Adolescence, it’s seen as a format that can run and run, at least to a second series if not further, as it could take in a different teen issue each series.
‘The topic has resonated with viewers because it taps into parents biggest fear and there’s plenty of scope for more in the same vein.
‘Stylistically, the one-take creative approach could become the hallmark of the series. It’s one of the aspects which has got everyone talking.’
