Chet Hanks, best known as the nepo baby of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, is flying high thanks to his new Netflix series Running Time.

He opened up about what it was like to work alongside Kate Hudson, 45, in the series based on the Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss. 

In an episode, Chet, who plays Los Angeles Waves’ point guard Travis Bugg, misreads Isla Gordon’s (Hudson) intentions and leans in to kiss her.

Isla pulls back so fast she falls out of the restaurant’s booth, but Chet remembers that scene very fondly. 

‘It was the best moment of my life,’ he told Too Fab in an interview.

‘Why wouldn’t it be?’ he added with a laugh.

Chet, 34, told the outlet what it was like working with the How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days star.

First he said that working on Running Point was a ‘joy,’ and Hudson gave him ‘plenty’ of advice on set.

‘I pay attention to her,’ he told TooFab. ‘Not so much asking her questions, but just by following her example. By following her example of how to carry a show.’

Hanks said that while being number one on the call sheet is ‘a big responsibility’ and ‘can be stressful,’ Hudson ‘never lets it stress her out.’

‘She’s super fun. She’s always super fun and outgoing and just a joy to be around,’ he said. ‘So that alone, I think, teaches you a lot, you know?’

Chet also said that he had a lot in common with his character and didn’t have to do a lot of prep.

‘I just got out of bed, got dressed, got in my car, and drove to work. That’s it,’ he said when he was asked how he gets into the ‘zone’ to portray the basketball player.

At the end of the first season of Running Point, Isla drove Travis to rehab for his substance abuse problem – something Chet also shares with his character.

He is three-and-a-half years sober and previously said he’s grateful that his parents supported him in his journey to sobriety.

Chet attended the Clarins ICONS event at The Academy Museum in Los Angeles on March 21 and opened up about what his sobriety means to him.

‘Everything. Everything,’ he told Us Weekly, adding, ‘If I wasn’t sober, none of these opportunities would even be possible.’

Chet also shared his advice for anyone struggling with addiction. 

‘My advice is if you think you might have a problem, then you do have a problem. 

‘Because if you’re thinking about it, the chances are that you can make a change and you just need to stop thinking and just do it.’ 

He continued, ‘Don’t look back. That’s the best advice I can give you.’

Chet also said that in order to stay sober he had to cut off the friends that enabled his substance abuse.

Hanks appreared on the Drew Barrymore show this week, his first talk show appearance

During the episode, he recreated Tom Cruise’s famous sofa moment from the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005 when he had first met Katie Holmes

‘You got to cut off a whole group of friends,’ he explained. ‘And it doesn’t got to be out of — it can be out of love. You just got to tell them, “Hey, I love you, but I can’t hang out with you.” And just keep it a buck like that.

Last week, Chet appeared on the Drew Barrymore Show, where he told the Ever After star, 50, it was his first time on a talk show. 

Barrymore responded to the news with a shocked look on her face as the actor then asked for permission from Drew to do ‘something that I’ve always wanted to do.’

He slowly stood up and then jumped up onto the couch and tossed his arms up into the air – imitating Tom Cruise doing the same action on The Oprah Winfrey Show 20 years earlier in 2005.

The Never Been Kissed star quickly understood the reference as both she and the crowd erupted into cheers and laughter.

‘Do you guys get the reference?’ he asked the audience and then the host quickly chimed in with, ‘Oh my God! Tom Cruise!’
