An Escape To The Country buyer broke down in tears after she was forced to make a ‘heartbreaking’ decision after a clash with partner on the BBC show. 

A recent episode of the programme saw Katie and ex-royal Navy engineer Craig ask for help from expert Denise Nurse to help them find the perfect property in the Scottish Borders. 

The pair originally met in Glasgow, and then moved to Colorado, USA, to be closer to veterinary surgeon Katie’s family – but want to move back to the Scottish countryside. 

They told Denise that they had a budget of £525,000 to try and find a detached property with three bedrooms, a garage, large garden and stunning views. 

The first property was a hit, but it was the second, a 19th century cottage, that made Katie very emotional while they were viewing it. 

Katie and Craig were very impressed when they stood outside it and she called it her very own ‘Beatrix Potter cottage’.

As they walked into the living space, Katie couldn’t hide how much she loved it, repeating the word ‘wow’

The second property really impressed Katie and Craig – and it left Katie in tears as they looked around with expert Denise Nurse

Denise asked her: ‘Katie, what’s going through your mind?’

Katie was lost for words and replied: ‘I thought that we’d really have to compromise on so many things being in the right area, location wise…

‘But having to say move the dream dream house, it’s either not going to be affordable, or it’s not going to be available…’

Her emotion got the better of her and she started to cry as she continued: ‘It’s quite astounding that it is here and you found it!’ 

Denise replied: ‘It’s really knocked you this one, hasn’t it?’

‘It totally has,’ she told her.  

However it was Craig who had to bring her back down to reality. 

The third property also left an impression on the pair – and they ended up going for a second viewing after the show

Although his initial impressions were very positive, there was no garage or workshop for him and he described it as a ‘major concern’. 

‘It’s a no,’ Craig told her.  

Moving onto the third home, the couple were happy to see what Denise showed them, despite they didn’t originally want a modern looking home. 

The house, built in 2010, had two living rooms, five bedrooms and a double garage for Craig. 

Craig told Denise that it had the ‘wow factor’. 

At the end of the episode they met up with Denise to talk about what they wanted to do. 

Katie admitted that making a concession was ‘heartbreaking’ and told Denise: ‘I did love house number two, I could so easily see us living there. 

‘But I think our theme is it needs to be our dream house.

‘I will miss aspects of the Beatrix Potter house, if that is what we are calling it. 

‘But I can totally see from Craig’s point of view, wanting to have the garages there…

‘Place equal balance on what makes him happy as what makes me happy. 

‘I can make a Beatrix Potter house over time.’  

But house number three did impress them enough to go for a second viewing. 

Craig said: ‘House number three, so much so that we like it enough and we’re coming back hopefully for a second viewing next week.’
