Hilaria and Alec Baldwin’s marriage has come under scrutiny once again after an acrimonious moment during a red carpet interview went viral. 

During a conversation with Extra about the future of their much maligned reality show, Hilaria, 41, snapped at her husband, 66, after he jumped in to answer a question, scolding: ‘Oh my God. When I’m talking, you’re not talking.’

The couple, who married in 2012, have history with public spats. Back in 2021 Hilaria was branded ‘a desperate attention-seeker’ after interrupting Alec’s press conference about Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchkin’s death, prompting her movie star husband to glare and snap at her. 

During the impromptu talk with press, which took place just ten days after the incident on the set of Alec’s movie Rust, Hilaria repeatedly barged in, paced in front of the camera, and scowled at the reporter, while making a show of filming the exchange on her iPhone.  

And now a relationship expert has revealed that that 2021 interaction signalled a mᴀssive shift in the Baldwins’ marriage.

‘Alec has been dealing with the fallout from the tragic shooting on the set of Rust, which must have added more stress to their relationship,’ Relationship Dynamics & Business Strategist Mairéad Molloy Doyle told MailOnline.

‘Psychologically, such behavior can be a sign of underlying stress or unresolved conflicts. When one partner publicly belittles or snaps at the other, it can indicate feelings of frustration, lack of respect, or unmet needs within the relationship.’

Alec and Hilaria aren’t shy about putting their relationship in the spotlight via social media posts and more recently on their TLC show The Baldwins – a move which Hilaria in particular admitted felt ’empowering’.

‘Telling your story is one thing, and showing your story is something else,’ Hilaria told PEOPLE about the reality show. ‘It felt authentic, it felt human. It felt very empowering.’

In one key scene in the series Alec muses about when their relationship dynamic shifted, telling the camera: ‘Hilaria, when I met her, she was in a world where she was very valued and appreciated and loved by people. Her life was a lot simpler in some senses.

‘She had what she had, and she was happy, and I sucked her into this filthy, disgusting world that I’m in. I think she’s less happy as a result of what we had to put up with.’

At another point in the show Alec complains how Hilaria gets to make all the decisions about their life, prompting a pointed exchange.

‘There was a point after we had our fifth kid she changed and started calling all the sH๏τs,’ he complains. ‘All of a sudden one day she made a decision to make things easier for her. Whatever I’d say she’d say: “No! No!”‘

Addressing his wife, he says: ‘You and I used to be more collaborative, we’d argue, we’d discuss We’d have some accommodation. One day you changed. No matter what I said, (you said) no.’

In a withering put-down, Hilaria tells her husband: ‘I agree that’s your reality of it’.

She goes on: ‘But what I used to do is say yes and do whatever I wanted and keep it from you’. Alec fires back: ‘You gaslit me’.

Mairéad told MailOnline that Alec’s comment about feeling ‘gaslit’ shows ‘that there is tension in how they handle things, which could explain why their interactions now seem more strained.’

‘The way she shuts him down in public suggests a shift in their dynamic, with her taking the lead and him feeling like he has less say.’

‘A big reason for this could be the pressure of raising a big family while being in the public eye. Alec has said that after their fifth child, Hilaria started making decisions on her own.’

‘It might be her way of keeping things under control, or maybe she just got used to being in charge.’

Twelve years into their marriage, they share seven children together: Carmen Gabriela, 11, Rafael Thomas, nine, Leonardo Angel Charles, eight, Romeo Alejandro David, six, Eduardo Pao Lucas, four, Maria Lucia Victoria, three, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, two. 

In business, Hilaria is taking a lead role in promoting the family reality show as well as her newly-published skincare guide and her upcoming motherhood book тιтled Manual Not Included.

Meanwhile, Alec’s involuntary manslaughter trial was dismissed on July 12 after he denied ever pulling the trigger on the revolver that fired a single bullet into Rust director Joel Souza’s arm and punctured cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’s chest killing her in 2021.

On January 9, Baldwin filed a civil lawsuit against the Rust case prosecutors, investigators, and commissioners for defamation and malicious prosecution and civil rights violations due to ‘intentionally mishandling evidence.’

But Mairead warns that the repeated public spats are huge red flags for the couple.

‘This kind of interaction not only affects the individuals involved but can also harm the overall health of the relationship,’ she says.

‘Over time, repeated negative interactions like this can lead to decreased self-esteem, increased anxiety, and a breakdown in communication between partners.’
