Tom Hanks’ nepo baby Chet baffles viewers with bizarre act on talk show after landing big Netflix role

Chet Hanks recreated a humorous moment during his first-ever talk how appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday.

The Shameless actor, 34 – who notably is the son of Hollywood stars Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson – made his way to the main stage and sat down next to the host towards the beginning of the interview.

He then excitedly expressed, ‘Before we get started, this is my first time on a talk show ever.’

Barrymore responded to the news with a shocked look on her face as the actor then asked for permission from Drew to do ‘something that I’ve always wanted to do.’

He slowly stood up and then jumped up onto the couch and tossed his arms up into the air – referencing to Tom Cruise doing the same action on The Oprah Winfrey Show 20 years earlier in 2005.

The Never Been Kissed star quickly understood the reference as both she and the crowd erupted into cheers and laughter.

He then leapt off and landed on one knee and continued to make excited motions with his arm before running to Barrymore and high-fiving her.

‘Do you guys get the reference?’ he asked the audience and then the host quickly chimed in with, ‘Oh my God! Tom Cruise!’

In 2005, the Mission Impossible actor – who was dating Katie Holmes at the time – had announced his love for the actress during the past interview on Oprah.

‘What has happened to you?’ the TV personality had asked Cruise after he jumped onto the couch and he replied with, ‘I’m in love!’

During his latest appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Chet also opened up about being ‘100% sober’ and gave a special shoutout to his ‘supportive’ parents amid his journey.

At one point during the interview, the TV personality shared that he has been sober for a total of ‘three and a half years.’

Chet also shared that both his father Tom and mom Rita Wilson have been ‘super supportive’ of him and added that he ‘doesn’t take it for granted’ while greeted with applause from the live audience.

‘I’m really, really grateful for both my parents. I’m at the age where I’m just really grateful for them. I really cherish the time that I have spent with them. They’ve stuck with me through thick and thin.

‘And I really am so grateful for where I’m at, where we’re all at, the things that I’ve got going in my life, all the beautiful people in my life, my relationships, my loved ones,’ he continued.

‘I’ve gotten to the point where I fully understand those are the most important things by far and everything else is just a bonus.’

Drew also stated that she has been sober for ‘five years’ and referenced to alcohol as ‘poison.’

The actress then expressed, ‘I had mᴀssive support from my friends, too. And honestly there’s just days where I don’t know how they didn’t give up on me and I don’t know how they stuck by me and with me for so long.

‘Like, they had faith that one day I would get there but what I’ve learned along the way is that family – whether it’s blood or found – do make you feel shy and embarrᴀssed when you aren’t doing the right things, and the most proud when you are.’

Chet agreed and stated, ‘I think you just naturally end up feeling embarrᴀssed a lot when you’re messing up.

‘And when you are doing the right thing, you make your loved ones more proud. So I think that’s a pretty natural thing going on especially with family.’

Last year in July, Chet discussed his past addiction to cocaine and the effect it had on his family during an appearance on Bradley Martyn’s Raw Talk.

‘I’m a f**king cokehead, straight up. Not anymore, but that is my drug of choice – cocaine, bro, like Tony Montana,’ the Project X actor said, referencing to Al Pacino’s character in Scarface.

‘You’re like, “I know this dude’s a f**king cokehead, but I want a little bump.” I would go do coke with the cokeheads, and they would be telling me, like, “Yo, chill, bro. … Wait a second. Give it like 15 minutes.” I couldn’t get enough of that s**t.’

On his past addiction, the star then shared, ‘It’s terrible. It eats away,. You just, like, wither away ’cause you can’t eat, you can’t sleep.’

He also recalled how his parents staged an intervention for him when he was a teenager and also sent him to a ‘wilderness camp’ in 2008.

‘I had been a really good, innocent kid my whole life. And then one day I just make that leap, take that step and it was like, ‘What the f**k.’ Where has my child gone.”‘

Chet continued, ‘Smoking weed, getting drunk, and doing stupid s**t. It was regular, but it was such an abrupt change that it was concerning.’

The star has previously claimed that his substance abuse issues began when he was just 16-years-old, but later checked into rehab in 2015.

And during an episode of Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets on MTV which aired last year, he had the chance to celebrate two years of sobriety.

‘Two years ago today, I was coming off a three-day coke binge where I didn’t eat, sleep or barely drink any water for three days straight,’ he said at the time.

‘When I got to Vegas, I weighed 190 pounds. At the end of it, I weighed 163. I lost 27 pounds in three days. So my disease is gnarly. It’s not pretty.’

The actor further recalled, ‘I went straight from Vegas. Checked myself into rehab, again. Here I am 31 years old, broke, strung out, sucked up, just skinny. Just at rock bottom.

‘And I just knew, man, if I don’t change my life in a drastic way, either I’m not even going to be around or something bad, so bad is going to happen that my life might as well be over.’

The son of Tom Hanks has been keeping busy with his latest sports comedy series тιтled Running Point – which was released on Netflix last month on February 27.

Alongside Chet, the cast also includes Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, Justin Theroux, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur and Max Greenfield.

The premise is: ‘Isla Gordon (Hudson), overlooked her whole life, is appointed President of the LA Waves basketball team, a family business. She aims to prove she was the right choice despite skepticism,’ per IMDB.

Chet took on the role of pro basketball player Travis Bugg in the series – which was renewed for a second season this month.

When it came to preparing for his character, the star told Men’s Health this month, ‘I hired a private basketball coach and added that on top of my training regimen.

‘He just ran me through all the basic stuff, like drills that any athlete who plays basketball would be familiar with.’

The actor also talked about being open about his sobriety and told the outlet, ‘It’s not hard to talk about, because a lot of people struggle with addiction.

‘They might not want to admit that to themselves. Maybe they’re just kind of stuck. If telling my story can encourage them to get out of their own way, that’s important to me.’

In regards to also working on his mental health amid his sobriety journey, Chet expressed, ‘I mean, being sober is the ultimate thing you can do to better your mental health.

‘If you’re prone to addiction, I feel like it’s the only way you can start to manage your mental health. It’s when you’re not sober that the problems with your mental health get worse.’
