Taylor Swift’s absence from the iHeartRadio Awards has sparked a theory she refrained from attending the show in part to avoid a celebrity who once bodyshamed her – Nikki Glaser. 

While Swift, 35, was not physically present, she did accept the award for Tour of the Century in a pre-recorded video.

The award was presented by Glaser, a Swift superfan who has attended 22 Eras Tour shows – and who also bodyshamed the singer in a 2015 interview. 

Unbeknownst to Glaser, 40, at the time her comments were made, Taylor has struggled with disordered eating. 

TikToker bringjessthehorizonn suggested that Swift pᴀssed on the event after realizing the show had intentionally selected Glaser to present her with the trophy in order to cause a stir.  

‘So now that the fact that they created this award for Taylor for the Eras Tour and then set it up so that Nikki Glaser would have to give it to her. It’s exactly just that, it’s a set up. Taylor must’ve seen through that and said, “Not today.”‘

The event was hosted by Nikki Glaser, who previously bodyshamed Swift before apologizing 

The TikToker suggested Swift had not moved on from the comments.  

‘So when iHeartRadio turned around and set this up, for Nikki Glaser to hand the award to Taylor, even though, once again, there’s no bad blood here, but you forgive, you forget, you never let it go.’

One TikToker commented of her ᴀssessment: ‘This is actually the best explanation I’ve heard for her not attending.’

‘I didn’t know Nikki presented the award but now I fully understand and would’ve done the same,’ another posted. 

Others were not convinced: ‘Yeah i think this is a ridiculous stretch,’ one posted. 

When another said they weren’t upset by Glaser presenting the award, the original poster replied: ‘I didn’t say she didn’t go only bc of Nikki, I was calling out iheart for trying to set this up. They’ve never publicly met while the other winner had close friends present to them&Gracie was there.’

On a Reddit thread discussing the award, one postulated: ‘I thought Nikki was finally going to get to meet her. I wonder if Taylor knows she’s a mega fan and is avoiding her lol.’ 

Glaser previously told Us Weekly of Swift in comments that appeared in the 2020 Swift documentary Miss Americana: ‘She’s too skinny. It bothers me. All of her model friends. You have to have a thigh gap to hang out with her. They screen all her friends. And it’s just like, come on.’

In the documentary, Swift opened up about her struggles with disordered eating.

She recalled when looking at pH๏τos of herself she would ‘feel like I looked like my tummy was too big, or…someone said that I looked pregnant and that’ll just trigger me to just starve a little bit – just stop eating’.

She added: ‘If you’re thin enough, then you don’t have that ᴀss that everybody wants.’

Swift accepted the award for Tour of the Century in a pre-recorded segment 

‘But if you have enough weight on you to have an ᴀss, your stomach isn’t flat enough. It’s all just f***ing impossible.’

Glaser publicly apologized to Swift in 2020 after the comments made their way onto Miss Americana, and was remorseful for causing ‘any pain.’ 

‘I really have no need to post this other than to apologize to someone who seriously means SO much to me,’ Nikki penned.

‘I only got a couple death threats from die-hard Swift fans, which as one myself, I totally get…. I just hope this somehow gets to her so she knows I’m sorry for any pain I caused her and that I’d love to be her friend someday (when I start modeling) and tell her how much her music has influenced my life and comedy.

Swift responded to Glaser’s apology and sent her ‘a mᴀssive hug.’

‘Wow. I appreciate this so much and one of the major themes about the doc is that we have the ability to change our opinions over time, to grow, to learn about ourselves. I’m so sorry to hear that you’ve struggled with some of the same things I’ve struggled with. Sending a mᴀssive hug. (heart emoji).’
