Viewers of The Chase have piled in on a contestant for an embarrᴀssing incorrect answer to the very first question of her round.
The ITV quiz show, hosted by Bradley Walsh, pits members of the public against a trivia expert, with the prize fund dependent on how much of a headstart they want on the Chaser.
During Monday’s instalment of the hit programme, Yvonne from Scunthorpe joined Pete from Oldham, Ellie from EsSєx and Zaiɴuᴅᴇen from Gloucester in taking on Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, 64, for a sH๏τ at the cash prize.
She was the final member of the team to tackle the cash builder after two of her fellow contestants successfully escaped the Chaser, bringing home a combined total of £7,000.
Yvonne, who runs an over-60s club, had plenty of time to let the nerves accumulate as she watched her teammates’ ᴀssured performances, before telling Bradley about her dream to travel the world to visit her family in Australia, New Zealand and Thailand.
Unfortunately she faltered on the opening question in her bid to add more money to her team’s prize fund, not just getting it wrong, but providing a seemingly nonsensical answer.

Yvonne unfortunately responded with, ‘Africa’, instead of the correct answer which was Egypt before repeating the feat by offering the same response to a separate question later on
She then showed what she was really made of with an ᴀssured performance in escaping chaser Shaun Wallace and taking home an offer of £1,000
Host Bradley asked: ‘The тιтle characters from the animated film Mummies are from which African country?’

Fans of the show took to social media to roast the contestant in the minutes after her mistakes.
One shocked viewer posted on X: ‘African country = Africa #TheChase’
Another added: ‘Which African country? Africa! #TheChase’
A third said: ‘#TheChase That famous African country, Africa.’
Another user posted: ‘Q. Mummies are normally from which African country? A. Africa’
But fans of the show took to social media to roast the contestant in the minutes after her mistakes
One amused fan said: ‘Yvonne please, what is this obsession with Africa??’
A sixth added: ‘Someone told Yvonne if you she doesn’t know the answer, just say Africa… #TheChase’
And one posted: ‘Yvonne is OBSESSED with Africa #TheChase’
The early blunder seemed to faze the contestant somewhat as she failed to earn any money in the first 30 seconds of the minute-long cash builder, before she thankfully turned it around with two snappy answers in the second half to rack up £2,000.
This total was still considerably less than the cash builder average over the years, which floats around £5,000, and only five of the 199 other players in series 17 scored less.
Yvonne then showed what she was really made of with an ᴀssured performance in escaping Shaun and taking home an offer of £1,000 which left her and her team presumably ruing her decision not to take a more ambitious offer.
The trio who made it home eventually scored 16 in the Final Chase, only to be caught up by Shaun with an impressive 12 seconds remaining, meaning Yvonne and co walked home with nothing.
Last week, fans of the show were left baffled by a wedding question that tripped up Andrew from Oldham, who was the first up against Chaser Anne Hegerty, 66, after securing £5,000 in the cash builder round.

However, he found himself stuck on a question that read: ‘In England, what is normally the earliest time of day a wedding ceremony can start in an Anglican church?’
Andrew was presented with the answers 8am, 10am or 12pm and chose 12pm admitting to Bradley he had ‘guessed’ and explaining, ‘Just because people need to get ready,’ as he shook his head and shrugged.
