Former Top of the Pops presenter brings back iconic 90s look as she opens up about health battle

A former Top of the Pops presenter was all smiles as she took to Instagram to unveil her new stylish haircut.

Sarah Cawood, 52, showed off her short, bobbed grey cut ahead of bringing back the fringe and red hair she was known for in the 90s.

The former presenter has been candid about her life after TV, as well as her ongoing health struggles following a battle with breast cancer in 2022.

Sarah is known not only for presenting Top of the Pops but Nickelodeon’s The Girlie Show and the BBC children’s classic Live & Kicking.

Now a freelancer, Sarah spends her time working as a voiceover artist, podcast host, and scriptwriter.

She quickly followed up the post with an unveiling of her new do, which was coloured the red she sported in the 90s alongside a short, choppy fringe.

The former presenter has been candid about her life after TV on social media, as well as her ongoing health struggles following a battle with breast cancer in 2022

Sarah prides herself on her honesty on social media and admits that while she is now in remission, she fears her cancer could return and suffers from health anxiety.

She told her Instagram followers: ‘This is the reality of anyone who has had any kind of cancer.

‘I never struggled with health anxiety before, but post-breast cancer it’s all-consuming and it wears me out a bit tbh.

‘I have been feeling tired since the new year began and although it’s probably life just life-ing, there’s always a niggling worry that It’s Back.

‘All I can do is carry on doing healthy things, moving my body, practicing mindfulness and living each day with graтιтude that I got to breathe again this morning.

‘So on we go! Batting away those intrusive thoughts and Getting On With It.

‘To anyone either going through a cancer diagnosis or anyone who has recovered from cancer and feels like this: I’ve got you, and my inbox is always open.

‘And remember, anything that doesn’t feel right: get it checked out. Early detection is key.’

Sarah also opened up about her showbiz past, admitting that she misses the money that came with being on TV most of all.

She wrote on Instagram: ‘Do I miss telly? I miss the money!

‘And yes, sometimes I wonder what went wrong, but I’m here now so I’m going to make the most of it, however that looks.’

Last year, the star, who married her long-term partner Andy Merry in 2012, said her family is made up of freelancers, which can make maintaining a showbiz lifestyle difficult.

She said: ‘We are a family of freelancers, we live well, but we live to the edge of our means, and that’s going to have to stop.

‘I will admit money burns a hole in my pocket, but this month, the sums haven’t added up and my poor husband, our main breadwinner, has a gap in his contracts that we have to fill somehow.

‘I’m just glad that I can plug some of the hole with my direct sales money, and I’m intending that to be a full-time wage, but the building of a business takes time and patience.’
