Oasis fans go wild as major ‘clue’ hints the band could be set to return for epic Knebworth show – 30 years on

Oasis fans have been going wild after a major ‘clue’ hinted that the band could be set to return for another epic Knebworth show.

Brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher performed to a 250,000 people at the venue across two days in 1996 – arguably their most famous gigs to date.

And now what has been claimed to be a ‘teaser poster’ online seemingly confirmed their return.

A page thought to be Knebworth House uploaded and deleted a post that suggested the duo could be back to delight crowds there yet again.

The post – which hasn’t been verified to be real – was a snap of the crowd from 1996, with the caption ‘This is History. August 2026.’

Some fans were convinced it was a legitimate poster that had been accidentally leaked while other weren’t sure if the post was fake or not.

Oasis and Knebworth have been contacted by MailOnline for comment.

Oasis had held the record for the biggest crowd there, attracting more fans than Queen and Led Zeppelin did at Knebworth.

Robbie Williams overtook Oasis’s record in 2003 when he played three nights at the outdoor venue.

In September 2024, the band posted on Twitter dismissing the idea that they would return to Knebworth.

But Henry Lytton Cobbold, the owner of Knebworth House, said in return: ‘They have a history of doing what the people want, and what the people want is Knebworth 2026

‘Let’s see how it goes. Every person I’ve met would love to see a 30th anniversary at Knebworth.

‘If Oasis doesn’t come back in 2026, they’ll come back in 2036. It will happen one day, we’re not going anywhere.’

It comes as it was revealed that the creator of Peaky Blinders is helping to make a film documenting Oasis’ long-awaited 2025 reunion tour.

Steven Knight is set to oversee and produce the documentary, while it will be directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace.

While he is best known for creating the hit Cillian Murphy crime drama, Steven also is the man behind Taboo, All the Light We Cannot See and A Thousand Blows, and  scored an Oscar nomination for writing 2002’s Dirty Pretty Things.

Dylan and Will have had much experience with music documentaries, having previously directed the 2009 reunion tour of Oasis’ arch-rivals Blur, in No Distance Left to Run.

They also helmed 2012 documentary-concert film hybrid Shut Up and Play the Hits following LCD Soundsystem and 2022’s Meet Me in the Bathroom, and have made music videos for the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand and Björk.

Oasis gave no further details about what fans can expect from the film, but it is thought it will include personal footage of the Gallagher brothers as well as the concerts, in the style of Dylan and Will’s previous projects.

It is being made via Magna Studios – the production company behind Lewis Capaldi’s emotional all-access film How I’m Feeling Now and the acclaimed musical docudrama 20,000 Days on Earth, depicting a ficтιтious 24-hour period in the life of Nick Cave.

The exciting news from the band comes only a day after Liam hit out at people supposedly leaking the lineup of the upcoming tour.

The outspoken singer, 52, lashed out on social media on Wednesday morning over an article in NME where ‘sources working closely with the band and tour’ unveiled the full roster for the shows.

The four names who will reportedly accompany Liam and his brother Noel on the road later this year include Andy Bell on bᴀss, Gem Archer and Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs on guitar and Joey Waronker on drums.

While the news will be welcomed by thousands of eagerly awaiting fans across the globe, for Liam it seemed to be a cause for alarm.

After reading the article, he wrote on X that while he was not ‘bothered’ about the lineup reveal, he was ‘concerned’ about the source the magazine claimed to have spoken with.

He urged NME to ‘tell me who your source pots are’ and offered an ‘exclusive interview’ in exchange, adding ‘you can have it all but how much do you want it’ – an iconic line from Oasis’ Supersonic.

Liam went on to reveal what the ‘real’ lineup would be – Tony McCarroll on drums, Alan White on bᴀss, Zak Starkey as lead guitarist and Chris Sharrock on keys.

But the announcement was seemingly another jibe, as many die hard fans of the band will know, all of those that he named were former Oasis drummers – some of whom did not part on good terms with the brothers.

The Oasis Live 25 tour kicks off on 4 July at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium before playing sell-out gigs at Manchester’s Heaton Park, Wembley Stadium in London, and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield stadium.

The pair will then embark on a global tour taking in shows in Japan, Argentina, the United States and Brazil.
