Death In Paradise ‘drops a huge bombshell’ in a first look of new character joining Saint Marie who is set to replace beloved veteran

Death In Paradise has dropped a huge bombshell in a first look of new character joining Saint Marie.

The BBC favourite show has introduced a brand-new face to the force – Sterling Fox, played by Holby City star Trieve Blackwood-Cambridge.

The wildly popular drama sees a string of detectives tackle crime on the tropical island of Saint Marie, keeping viewers gripped with mysterious cases and dramatic plot twists.

Sterling arrives in the wake of Commissioner Selwyn Patterson’s shock departure, with Don Warrington’s much-loved character axed.

And in a first-look clip, exclusive to the Mirror, Sterling appears to make it clear that he’s here to stay – much to the dismay of his new colleagues.

Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson (Don Gilet) and Detective Sergeant Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackson) are less than impressed when they spot him approaching their police van.

‘Oh no, please not him,’ DS Thomas groans, unimpressed as Sterling strides over, even failing to remember her name.

DI Wilson is equally unenthusiastic, sarcastically remarking :’I thought we only had the pleasure of your company every other Wednesday.’

Sterling, however, appears to have other plans, as he smugly declared: ‘I’ll be around for a few days while I’m still getting up to speed.’

‘Aren’t we the lucky ones,’ DI Wilson sᴀssily comments back, turning to exchange a less-than-pleased glance with Thomas.

Sterling wasted no time ruffling feathers, immediately raising eyebrows by dismissing Selwyn’s former office as ‘cute’—a comment that didn’t go down well with the island’s detectives.

Reports suggest that Sterling will deliberately get in DI Wilson’s  way as he investigates his mother’s suspicious death—a case Selwyn was helping him with before being forced out.

Selwyn’s departure sent shockwaves through the police force, after he was axed due to budget cuts, despite a desperate push from the residents of Saint Marie to keep him in post.

His exit hasn’t just upset the locals—fans of the show have been left fuming.

Outraged viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to vent their frustration, with one writing: ‘Going to miss the Commissioner.’

‘Surely #DeathInParadise can’t get rid of Selwyn?’

‘This “replacement” for Selwyn is deeply annoying. Please leave and give us our Selwyn back immediately.’

‘So gutted, how can they actually replace Selwyn?’

While the BBC has given a glimpse of what is to come, Season 14’s finale is yet to be confirmed as part of a big schedule change.

Season 14’s closing episode was initially expected to air next Friday, March 21, but it will now be replaced by Comic Relief on BBC One.

The finale has been delayed as a result, and fans can expect it to air on March 28 – one week afterwards.
