Truth behind Sharon Stone’s controversial Another Simple Favor drama

Truth behind Sharon Stone’s controversial Another Simple Favor drama

Sharon Stone ‘didn’t have’ an official role in Another Simple Favor, according to sources who say that the Hollywood legend had not been ‘promised’ a part in the upcoming movie.

The iconic actress left fans stunned when she revealed a surprising link to the A Simple Favor sequel amid the ongoing speculation about tension between the lead stars Blake Lively, 37, and Anna Kendrick, 39.

‘I LOVED being cast and removed from my role unexpectedly for no reason at all. LOVED it,’ the 67-year-old commented under an E! News Instagram post discussing the ongoing headlines surrounding the movie.

The Oscar nominee’s alleged casting in the Paul Feig-directed comedy thriller had not previously been reported on.

Now, insiders have exclusively revealed to DailyMail.com that the actress was never actually cast in any role for the flick.

‘Sharon was circling a role for the film and though she thought she all but had it,’ the source began. ‘Sharon didn’t have it. She spoke with Paul Feig about doing something for the film, but nothing came from their initial communication.

The insider added: ‘And as things go sometimes in Hollywood, people always say, “Let’s meet for lunch” and then never do.

‘This was a situation where they talked but nothing was promised from Paul’s side, he thinks Sharon is great and would like to potentially work with her in the future, but in this case, they never struck a deal.’

The source acknowledged that Sharon may have incorrectly believed that a part was in the bag as they continued: ‘Sharon thought differently and as the movie went on, Sharon never heard back, nothing was signed, so a bunch of miscommunications is what the true deal is. There was no ill intention to hurt her feelings.’

The insider noted that the film simply went down a different path which meant Sharon’s potential involvement no longer came into play.

‘Paul and the film just moved in a different direction and as we see now, Sharon had a different idea on how everything was meant to work out,’ the source added. ‘Wires were crossed, and that is why we are in the situation we are in now having her think she had something she actually didn’t 100 percent have.’

The embattled movie has been hit with controversy in the lead-up to its release, amid  claims of a ‘feud’ between leading actresses Blake and Anna.

The film’s director recently tried to shut down any reports of tension between stars during the premiere at SXSW Film Festival.

When a YouTube star claimed on X that Blake was ‘terrified to walk the red carpet’ with Anna last Friday, Paul quickly and concisely quashed the allegation, replying simply, ‘Um … you’re wrong.’

At the premiere, both actresses walked the red carpet separately, as is the usual practice.

When asked about working with Anna again, Blake described her co-star as ‘the best.’

However, when Entertainment Tonight asked Anna a similar question, she refused to get involved in any drama resulting from the lawsuits filed by Blake and her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni, answering with a cryptic ‘Oh, you know…’ before walking away to take a selfie with a fan.

In a red carpet interview with Variety, Anna further feigned ignorance about the controversy.

‘Why? What happened?’ she asked before adding: ‘I did ayahuasca and the last year of my life has been gone.’

Turning to the backdrop, she continued, ‘But I hear the movie is amazing.’

Another Simple Favor reunites Blake’s character Emily and Anna’s character Stephanie Smothers from the hit 2018 film.

This time, they are traveling to Italy for Emily’s wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. Somehow, amid all the wedding preparations, murder and betrayal are also on the ‘to do’ list.

The source continued: 'Nothing was signed, so a bunch of miscommunications is what the true deal of it all is with this as there was no ill intention to hurt her feelings'

So far, the film has received less than favorable reviews from two top Hollywood trades.

Another Simple Favor was blasted as ‘silly and sometimes trying’ by The Hollywood Reporter, as Variety accused it of ‘samey-sameness’ and noted it ‘drags on.’

The Hollywood Reporter argued that the movie ‘doesn’t prove to be the exception’ to the rule that sequels ‘rarely live up to the standards of their predecessors.’

Lovia Gyarkie, the trade publication’s critic, called the movie ‘often very ridiculous and sometimes trying’ while praising the ‘chemistry’ between Blake and Anna.

Veteran critic Owen Gleiberman wrote in Variety that the movie ‘both diverts and drags on,’ noting that it was ‘more labored than clever.’

Comparing Another Simple Favor to ‘a flakier Knives Out sequel crossed with a cartoon gloss on White Lotus,’ he wrote that as a follow-up to the original movie, the sequel ‘offers more of the same, and not enough of it, and too much of it.’

He observed that the film ‘feels, in a way that the first movie didn’t, like an elaborate kitsch-crime schematic that the performers are going through the motions acting out.’
