Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has revealed that she ‘nearly killed’ her co-stars in a botched stunt during an appearance on This Morning on Thursday.
The actress, 61, who plays Eileen Grimshaw on the ITV soap, appeared on the talk show to chat to Ben Shepherd and Cat Deeley about her time in Weatherfield.
Back in January it was revealed that Sue was leaving Coronation Street after 25 years on the cobbles.
And earlier this week she spoke about her fond memories on Corrie with the This Morning hosts.
This Morning shared a montage of her best bits before the interview, and after watching it, Sue described her alter-ego as ‘violent’ and then went on to reveal a huge blunder involving her co-stars.
Sue then went on to say: ‘How the world has changed… I remember in the early days when you slapped someone – you used to do it…

‘Now, you’ve got stunt people in and it’s all magic, but we used to do it.
‘I remember banging Steve McDonald and Craig [Charles]’s heads together and there was an almighty bang.
‘Honestly, I nearly killed them.’
Ben asked: ‘As you clobbered their heads together?
She replied: ‘Yeah, you heard it. I got carried away.’
Then Ben went on to point out that she got knocked out at one point.
Sue explained: ‘Lesley, who had Alzheimer’s, we had a stunt person there and we set it up.
‘Her hit was from the underneath, it came up. Which is not good, is it?’

She then went onto explain why she’s decided to leave Corrie.
Sue said: ‘I’m leaving now. I’m 61 and this is what my new book is all about.
‘I think we get to an age where society wants us to shuffle off quietly.
‘And I want to encourage other women that we have so much more to give.
‘We have experience, we make great mentors.
‘We are great resolution makers, we’re great teachers.
‘We’ve got so much life experience that I don’t want women to think “this is the end for me, I will shuffle off quietly”.
‘I think a lot of women lose their confidence.

‘Their belief in themselves. I think we spent so much time looking after other people, we haven’t spent enough time prioritising on ourselves.
‘I don’t mean I prioritising going to the gym, I mean really thinking about your priories. And you have to look after yourself.
‘There is a reason why on a plane they say put your own oxygen mask on… unless we prioritise ourselves, we cant prioritise others.’
Sue, who is a regular panelist on Loose Women, has been a fan favourite on the ITV soap since she joined in 2000.
On Loose Women back in January she also opened up about the reason why she decided to leave.
During her appearance on Loose Women, Sue said: ‘I have decided after 25 wonderful years that it is time to hang Eileen back up in the prop cupboard.
‘I’ve decided it’s time to leave, they’re keeping the door firmly open for me. It’s just the right time!’.
The soap star will be on the show until late spring.
Sue said: ‘I’ve had 25 privileged years of working on Coronation Street.
‘The door is still firmly open but as I reached my 60th year, I decided it was time to embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly.’
Corrie’s boss Kate Brooks said of her departure: ‘Over the past twenty five years, Eileen Grimshaw has been at the heart of some of the most memorable and iconic Corrie storylines, and her onscreen rivalry with Gail Platt will undoubtedly go down in Corrie folklore.
‘There’s certainly no one quite like Eileen, and her character will be hugely missed on the Cobbles.
‘We wish Sue all the very best as she embarks on her next exciting chapter.’
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
