Laura Whitmore Investigates has reportedly been cancelled after just one series.
The former Love Island host, 39, tried to take a more ‘serious’ approach to television as she looked into a range of controversial topics for the ITV docuseries.
But, according to insiders, the move hasn’t worked out and the show has not been commissioned for a second batch of episodes.
A source told The Sun: ‘It’s quite a change in fortunes for Laura who, just three years ago, was fronting several shows with ITV and had others in the pipeline with them.
‘She took a gamble leaving Love Island to become a serious journalist, and it’s not clear if that was a success.’
Laura does not have anything else coming up apart from her Britain’s Killer Teens series, and it remains to be seen whether a ‘spectacular comeback’ is on the cards.

The source added: ‘Perhaps she will stage a spectacular comeback — but nothing has been announced, other than the Crime+Investigation show.’

Laura started her career as a reporter for MTV in the 2008 before going on to front I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here NOW! and made appearances on This Morning.
Her success really took off when she was selected to replace Caroline Flack as host of Love Island in 2019, and stayed in the job until Maya Jama took the reins in 2022.
It’s the third show fronted by the TV presenter to be given the chop recently after ITV chose not to renew her Sunday programme Laura Whitmore’s Breakfast Show.
Shortly after that, Prime Video also pulled the plug on her Date My Mate series after a single run.
At the time, a source said: ‘Love Island is a distant memory and she has ceased hosting her weekend show on ITV1, so this is a rather disappointing hat-trick of farewells.
‘Laura seems to have tried a variety of projects after leaving the villa, including chat shows and documentaries, but it seems even the familiar territory of a dating show isn’t a safe bet.’

Laura began hosting her ITV breakfast show in 2023 but ITV announced in February it would be replaced by by Farmhouse Breakfast hosted by Jimmy Doherty and Shivi Ramoutar.
A representative for Prime Video declined to comment at the time.

She has since filmed investigative documentaries and expressed her relief at being a producer on her ITVX series Laura Whitmore Investigates, after having previously just been ‘the face’ of television projects.
The DJ admitted she sees the move as her way of ‘reclaiming my power,’ after having been ‘frustrated’ over having ‘no control’ over the shows she worked on.
Laura also revealed she is having therapy after it was offered to her for the first time, and admitted: ‘I never really feel like I fit in!’
It comes after the TV star infuriated BBC bosses by pulling out of her appearance on the Celebrity Apprentice special, MailOnline revealed.
She left the casting team in the lurch after backing out of the show’s lineup, which includes the likes of Big Brother host AJ Odudu, EastEnders star Jake Wood, and JLS singer JB Gill.

Lord Sugar’s spin-off is to celebrate 20 years of The Apprentice as a host of famous faces take on the challenge of impressing the business mogul for charity.
But podcast host Laura will not be one of them after she opted out of the BBC series due to an ‘unavoidable clash’ in her schedule.
Other names taking part in the one-off special are TV’s Rob Rinder, actress Sarah Hadland, and ex-Apprentice candidate Tom Skinner, who competed for Lord Sugar’s £250,000 investment in 2019.
A TV source told MailOnline: ‘Laura infuriated BBC bosses by pulling out of the Celebrity Apprentice special.
‘Of course, there can be a lot of last minute changes in television, but it was just days before filming started and the team were very much left in the lurch.
‘The dates did not work for Laura and so she backed out, but many were left in an awkward position by her decision.’
