The 1% Club fans critique ITV after tricky question wipes out players – but can you get it right?

The 1% Club viewers have criticised ITV after a tricky question wiped out several players.

Saturday’s instalment of the popular quiz show hosted by Lee Mack, 56, saw 100 hopefuls attempt to bag a cash prize.

Contestants answer questions that were put to the public, with the percentage who got it right determining its difficulty in each round.

Aptly, the final question is one that just 1 per cent of the public answered correctly.

But the 40 per cent question in the recent instalment caused uproar among viewers.

It read: ‘How many different combinations are there of displaying four digits on one hand?’

The correct answer was revealed to be five and graphics demonstrated the combinations to contestants.

Eight players answered wrong and were knocked out of the game, but fans of the show took to social media to express their frustration at the question.

One wrote on X: ‘While I know the answer to the question is technically correct – ‘How many different combinations are there to display four digits on one hand?’ With the answer being ‘five’ You try showing your ring finger with your pinky finger down – can’t be done! #The1PercentClub.’;

‘I’d argue only four ways to show four digits with one hand because it’s difficult to lower your pinky without your next figure lowering too #The1PercentClub.’;

‘Think question should have read ‘only’ displaying four digits.’

Another viewer got the answer correct: ‘5, one with each digit down #The1PercentClub.’

In the same episode, a contestant admitted her friend had rearranged a funeral date so she could appear on the show.

Joyce revealed to host Lee: ‘My friend’s partner sadly pᴀssed away recently and she gave the day’s date as the funeral.

‘And I said ‘perhaps not’, so we are doing it tomorrow instead.’

Lee replied, ‘Wow, I thought the wedding story was bad,’ in reference to another player, who shared how she had missed her brother’s wedding for the show.

‘The pressure is on you now after all that not to go out on the 90% question and watch it all go up in smoke. That’s a bad choice of words – to watch it all go wrong,’ he added.

The 1% Club airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
