Geri Horner gave an empowering speech at Harper’s Bazaar International Women’s Day at the Corinthia in London on Thursday evening. 

The former Spice Girl, 52, addressed the guests as she spoke about what female empowerment means, admitting that ‘as women we are expected to work twice as hard, for half as much.’ 

The singer recalled attending a previous Harper’s Bazaar event alongside director Emerald Fennel who gave a speech about having to ‘do it all’ as a woman. 

Geri began: ‘The last time I came to a Harper’s Bazaar event, someone else left an everlasting impression from Director, Actress and Writer, Emerald Fennel. 

‘Her speech was funny, self-deprecating, honest. It was about how she’d rushed to get here, quickly got ready, being a mum, with children. 

‘It left me with this feeling that she had a lot going on… a lot of pressure to be everything. As women we are expected to work twice as hard, for half as much.’

Geri looked stylish as she attended the event in a smart white power suit and black heels. 

She was joined by actress Lucy Boynton who looked stunning in an elegant white dress with dramatic flared sleeves and collar. 

Elsewhere in her speech Geri spoke about the power of women lifting each other up as she continued: ‘Let’s remember that every woman in this room, whatever your life looks like, all our actions and achievements inspire each other, pioneers of each generation in different ways.

‘We lift each other – our sisters, daughters, all of our children, regardless of gender…. are examples for each other too.’

She finished: ‘Let’s celebrate those who came before us, champion those who stand beside us, and inspire those who will follow. 

‘Because when we lift each other up, we shape a world where anything is possible. If we can see it, we can be it.’

The celebratory event  brings together inspiring women, who are each breaking boundaries in their respective fields, for a series of empowering talks.

Also in attendance was actress Gemma Chan, journalist Emma Barnett and TV producer Sam McAlister.
