Ione Skye is pulling back the curtain on her Hollywood life in her new memoir Say Everything.

The 54-year-old actress, who rose to fame opposite John Cusack in 1989’s Say Anything, takes readers on a journey through her life in the spotlight—a path she was born into as the daughter of Mellow Yellow singer Donovan.

The British-American star shares stories of her famous inner circle, which included the likes of River Phoenix and Madonna. 

But despite the tell-all nature of her book, Skye insists she approached it with care.

‘I definitely don’t want to hurt anyone. But some people I named in the book have read it, and luckily everyone has loved it,’ she told People. 

She also shared that Cusack previewed the memoir, where she reveals they slept together years after the film.

‘I had to get it out of my system,’ she wrote, per the outlet, referring to their rendezvous following her divorce from Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz.

And Cusack’s reaction was priceless. 

‘You made the experience sound so meh! It wasn’t ‘meh’ for me,’ he texted her after reading the book, she said.

Skye stands by her portrayal, explaining to the outlet, ‘I’m telling a story, and it was more about how all of our chemistry was in our working together and stimulating each other’s minds, not sleeping together!’ she told 

She added, ‘I felt a little bad, but, oh well.’

The actress also recalls her early admiration for her A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon (1988) co-star and longtime friend Phoenix. 

‘River ended up being a brother to me, but I remember at the time thinking, “Oh, I’m in love with him!” I couldn’t wait to do my kissing scene with him. He was just delicious,’ she wrote. 

Her memoir details her whirlwind romance with Beastie Boys’ Adam Horovitz, whom she met at 20 and married in 1992.

The couple divorced in 2000, and Horovitz later married ʙικιɴι Kill singer Kathleen Hanna.

‘I wrote to Adam,’ she says. ‘He’s private, but also such a big part of my story so he couldn’t not be in it.’

Skye’s husband of 15 years, Australian musician Ben Lee, stood by her memoir without hesitation. The couple shares a 15-year-old daughter, Goldie, while Skye is also mother to Kate, 24, from a previous relationship.

‘I don’t think anything ruffled his feathers,’ she said.
