Bridget Jones’ Leo Woodall reveals he started therapy when he sH๏τ to fame starring on White Lotus as he didn’t want to ‘lose himself’

Leo Woodall opened up about going to therapy as he spoke in a candid new podcast chat released on Tuesday.

The actor, 28, told how he started seeing a professional when he sH๏τ to fame starring in the huge hit series White Lotus.

Appearing on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast he explained that he took the steps in order not ‘lose himself’.

He said on the podcast: ‘I think it takes therapy. I think everyone should do that. I think I found a lot of confidence, a newfound confidence…

‘When things started to really kick off with [White] Lotus I kind of had to rally quite quickly and go, ‘okay, there’s going to be a lot of exposure. I’m a bit more out there now and I want to make sure that I protect myself and stay sane and don’t lose myself.’

‘And the only way that I could do that was just to go, ‘okay, this is me.’ ‘I think it [therapy] is a process. I think it takes that choice to go, ‘okay, whatever it is that I’m struggling with, I need to work through it and I need to be able to talk about it.’

And honestly, there are days where, I dunno if you do therapy, but you walk in, you’re like, ‘you know what? I feel great today. I don’t need f**king therapy,’ but those days are also incredibly important.

‘For me it’s built a real resilience and it helped me grow not just a sense of self, but an acceptance that everyone else is also dealing with their own sh*t and you can’t help, everyone and you can’t conduct anyone else’s behavior.

‘And I think having an acceptance of that is actually quite freeing.’

Leo most recently starred in the Bridget Jones film Mad About the Boy where he played Bridget’s (Renée Zellweger) younger love interest Roxster.

During the podcast chat he gushed about taking part in the film and his co-stars’ talents.

He said: ‘That’s one of those surreal moments… I love Bridget Jones. It is one of those films that I’d probably watched for the first time very young at Christmas, and just then it became an annual thing.

‘So to be a part of it, it’s very, very, very special. I think it’s wonderful… I think what Renée has done with that character across the span of 20 years is really one in itself.

‘There’s not something that I think I could compare to it. I think she’s so wonderful.

‘She’s made so many people, if not feel seen, but just feel cozy. And I think what the Mad About The Boy achieves is that same effect.

‘It has got all the Bridgetisms that we know and love and it’s stayed true to that kind of template, but it’s got a new aspect as well, which is her dealing with grief. And she plays it so wonderfully. It’s written so beautifully and it’s incredibly moving.’

Last month Leo revealed he isn’t ‘bothered’ by the toyboy label after his age-gap romance in the new film.

The One Day star plays Renee’s character Bridget’s much-younger love interest, Roxster, in Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy.

Leo insisted he isn’t fazed by the ‘toyboy’ phrase, adding that romances between younger men and older women aren’t ‘that unusual’.

The British actor also gave a rare update on his relationship with his White Lotus co-star Meghann Fahy, 34, who is six years his senior.

The couple – who looked loved-up at a Bridget Jones screening earlier that week – have been тιԍнт-lipped in the press since they began dating in 2022.

In a rare comment, Leo told The Telegraph he is ‘very, very happy’ with the American actress and added that ‘everything would be a bit too crazy without her there’.

They met in Sicily while filming season two of the hit drama, The White Lotus, and have been going strong ever since.

Discussing his Bridget Jones character’s label as a ‘toyboy’, he told the outlet: ‘[The toyboy phrase] is being used a lot.

He said in the podcast: 'When things started to really kick off with [White] Lotus (seen) I kind of had to rally quite quickly and go, ''okay, there's going to be a lot of exposure''

‘And look: I’m someone who typically leans into wanting to find the humour in things, and not taking things too seriously, particularly when it pertains to myself.

‘So it’s not the phrase that bothers me, really. It’s more that in the story, Roxster is actually more than just a toyboy, they do have a real relationship and find a real connection.’

He added that people just ‘aren’t used’ to seeing a younger man/older woman dynamic onscreen, whereas the older man/younger woman romance has been shown ‘countless times’.

Leo and Meghann confirmed dating rumours in November 2023 when they were spotted kissing under an umbrella in New York City.
