Awkward moment Timothée Chalamet responds to Julianne Hough’s ‘dumb’ red carpet request

Awkward moment Timothée Chalamet responds to Julianne Hough’s ‘dumb’ red carpet request

Timothée Chalamet fans are reacting to his red carpet interview with Julianne Hough.

Ahead of Sunday night’s 97th Annual Academy Awards, the 29-year-old actor took a moment to chat with Hough, 36.

Dressed in a monochrome yellow suit, Timothée discussed his role as Bob Dylan in the 2024 biopic A Complete Unknown.

After complimenting the SAG Award winner on his depiction of the singer, she then referenced his 2020 Saturday Night Live performance, in which he played a fictional rapper for the show’s Rap Roundtable skit.

For the memorable sketch, in which he starred alongside Pete Davidson, Chalamet hilariously shouted out incomprehensible lyrics punctuated by ‘skrt’ and ‘skeet’ adlibs. The characters were meant to mimic ‘SoundCloud rappers.’

During the live Oscars pre-show, Julianne proposed, ‘I was hoping that maybe you could do the ‘skrt, skeet’ in like, Bob Dylan.’

The Call Me By Your Name star politely declined, answering, ‘You know what? I’m gonna need a check.’

The awkward moment has circulated on the internet, with fans expressing disgust over Julianne’s question.

One person wrote on X, ‘Timothée Chalamet was asked to do his “skrt, skeet” SNL bit in Bob Dylan’s voice on the Oscars red carpet, and his reply is killing me lol “You know what? I’m gonna need a check.” lol pay the man!’

Someone else added to the thread, ‘“Dance for me, monkey” is a tactic that 9 times out of 10 will not go over the way the interviewer thinks it might.’

Another person wrote, ‘lol sorry to this woman but what a dumb question.’

The 97th Academy Awards honored the best films of 2024, and the starry ceremony was held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Conan O’Brien, 61, made his debut as Oscars host, after joking: ‘I only agreed to host so that I could get invited.’

Ariana Grande opened the show with a flawless rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz.

It was swiftly followed by an appearance from her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, who performed the song Home from 1974’s The Wiz starring Diana Ross.

The stars then delivered a duet as they powerfully sang Defying Gravity.

The biggest award of the night, Best Picture, went to the independent film Anora.
