Kylie Jenner had fans buzzing when she quietly swapped seats just before boyfriend Timothée Chalamet’s Oscar category was announced.
As the Oscars 2025 ceremony unfolded at the Dolby Theatre, the makeup mogul was front and center beside the Wonka star, who was up for Best Actor for his turn as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.
But when last year’s winner, Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy, stepped onstage to reveal this year’s champ, eagle-eyed viewers noticed Kylie was no longer next to Timothée.
In her place? His mother, Nicole Flender, who had already shared the red carpet spotlight with her son earlier that evening.
And while Nicole was now positioned for what could have been a tear-jerking victory moment, she instead had a front-row seat to watch her son lose to Adrien Brody for The Brutalist.
Naturally, fans speculated that Kylie, who had shifted to the row behind Timothée, stepped aside to let him and his mom share the moment—had he won.

‘Kylie swapped seats with Nicole for this category just in case Timothée won,’ one fan tweeted.
A different viewer posted, ‘Who else noticed they switched Kylie Jenner with Timothee’s mom.’
Another quipped, ‘They really put Timothée front and center, moved Kylie so his mom could sit with him, and then gave the award to Adrien Brody. #Oscars.’

Yet another chimed in, ‘them swapping out kylie for timothée’s mom right before best actor was announced…… ooooooo.’
Although Kylie was seated behind Timothée, she still made sure to give him a kiss after his loss.
Timothée leaned back as Kylie stretched her arms over the seat to share a sweet smooch, undeterred by the barrier between them.
While a majority of fans on X/Twitter were elated over the couple’s Oscars date night, some people claimed that Jenner’s presence at the ceremony will cause Chalamet to lose his Best Actor nomination.
‘Everyone saying he’s going to lose because he brought her,’ wrote one X/Twitter user.
‘He goin home empty handed,’ another person suggested.
‘Ohhhhh he’s losing that Oscar,’ a third user said, while someone else wrote: ‘He’s not winning.’

It seemed their reasoning was due to the ‘Kardashian curse,’ an online theory that every man who gets romantically involved with one of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters suffers a fall from grace.
‘I hope the Kardashian curse is fake now,’ said one fan, in response to pH๏τos of Chalamet and Jenner at the Oscars.
‘They told him don’t bring Kylie she got that Kardashian curse,’ another person wrote.
The outing marked Kylie’s first public appearance since the heartbreaking loss of her beloved hairstylist Jesús Guerrero.
