Fred Sirieix has taken a swipe at Love Island contestants as he has insisted that contestants on First Dates ‘don’t want to make money or be famous’.
The dating show host, 53, may keep his own love life private but has gained popularity with the public since his TV debut as the maître d’ in the First Dates restaurant back in 2013.
And now he has hit out at ITV’s Love Island as he said those on First Dates are looking for love and not need to couple up to win a prize.
First Dates follows single people who go on blind dates at a specially set-up restaurant, to find romance.
The show captures their first impressions, conversations, and chemistry -or lack thereof – and at the end of the date, the participants reveal whether they’d like to see each other again.
Meanwhile, Love Island follows a group of singles who live together in a luxury villa while trying to form romantic connections.

The goal is to stay coupled up, as contestants who fail to find a partner risk being dumped from the island.
But Fred believes those on his show are not there for money or fame, just love.
He told The Sun: ‘I’m not here to diss Love Island or anything like that, but people don’t come on First Dates because they want to make money or be famous, they come to find love, and that is pure; you don’t have to ‘couple up’ to win the prize.
‘There is no prize, no money and no glory besides finding love. They have five minutes on television and can hopefully come back home with a person that they want to be with for the rest of their lives, it’s beautiful – I’m a romantic at heart.’
He may be the connector for many love stories but his own is usually kept under wraps as he has never revealed his wife’s name and labels her Fruitcake.
Fred and his fashion expert partner, 50, said ‘I do’ at the stunning Pattoo Castle on the island surrounded by family and friends last month.
And the pair shared a slew of snaps from their big day and the start of their honeymoon on Instagram.
Fruitcake posted a string of romantic pH๏τos of Fred giving his bride a kiss in front of a stunning sunset, with her looking breathtaking in a strapless white lace gown, with a plunging corsetted bodice and sheer veil.

Other snaps showed the newlywedded couple celebrating becoming husband and wife, as they cheered on their way down the aisle after exchanging their vows.
Fred cut a handsome figure in a white suit jacket with black trousers and a matching bow tie as he raised his hand in the air in jubilation and the guests threw confetti.
Captioning the pictures, Fruitcake gushed: ‘What a day it was! 18.2.25 was unforgettable. Stay tuned for more pictures and videos from our wedding!’
While Fred took to his own social media to share snippits of the couple’s honeymoon in Kingston, with them seen exploring incredible views and enjoying a dip in an infinity pool.
And the TV star wasted no time in stripping down to his beloved speedos as he proudly flaunted his toned physique for one snap.
During his I’m A Celebrity stint in 2023, Fruitcake revealed Fred was obsessed with getting into his tiny swimwear any chance he could.
Speaking to the Daily Mail at the time, she said: ‘I haven’t seen clips of him in his Speedos yet and I am surprised.
‘You know you are allowed to take in five pieces of underwear? He took three speedos and two pants.

‘If he could he would be a naturist walking round in there so the fact he is just in his pants doesn’t surprise me.
‘When he is with Gino [D’Campo] and Gordon [Ramsay] he is always the one getting his kit off.’
She added: ‘He’s got one pair with the French flag. I’m surprised that he hasn’t worn them.
‘I swear the man lives in them And he’s got one that’s red and I think one that’s blue.’
