Kathy Griffin has made a rare public remark on her short-lived fling with Jack Black, which unfolded before either of them was famous.

The 64-year-old stand-up comic recalled an off-putting moment that took place in his bathroom while they were seeing each other.

She told the anecdote in a new post on her TikTok, holding up a throwback pH๏τo of them cuddling up together on a sofa in the 1990s.

‘This is a picture of me and my then-boyfriend Jack Black, who you probably know mostly from School Of Rock,’ she told her fans.

‘So he was the first boyfriend I ever had where other bros thought I was cool because I was dating him – and by the way, dating is a very loose term,’ she quipped. 

Setting the scene, she remembered that he used to live in an apartment on Vermont Avenue in Los Angeles – and then she told the story of a night she spent there.

‘So one night I spent the night there, and the next day I’m in the shower, and I remember saying to him – I get off on the bathmat and I said: “I need a shower towel.” And he goes: “You’re standing on it,”‘ said Kathy.

‘You guys, that’s straight guys,’ she ᴅᴇᴀᴅpanned. ‘He had one bathmat/towel that he used for both, and that was it, so naturally I kept sleeping with him.’

Although she has only rarely spoken publicly about her dalliance with Jack, he did feature in her first memoir Official Book Club Selection, published in 2009.

‘Another example of me getting flack from the boys is when Jack Black dumped me. That’s right. I f***ed Jack Black,’ she wrote in the book.

‘Okay, we went out only two or three times, but that’s a relationship in my book. And by the way, this is my book,’ the My Life On The D List star joked.

She recalled that she ‘thought he was a weirdo, and was therefore instantly attracted to him,’ noting that ‘Jack and I were pretty much complete opposites.’

Foreshadowing the story she told on TikTok, Kathy wrote: ‘I was always kind of a neatnik, a stickler for rules, and Jack would smoke pot and play video games all day.’ 

In her book, she dished: ‘When our brief fling ended, I got up at Un-Caberet and did a bit about how Jack dumped me for Andy Dick, because they had started hanging out and became their own mutual appreciation society about each other’s comedy.’

Kathy shared that ‘even though there wasn’t a single guy I knew that I hadn’t gone up onstage and talked about, Jack and Andy were staring daggers at me after that set.’

She recalled that she adopted a defiant atтιтude in response to their scorn, thinking: ‘I dont care. You broke up with me, Jack. And Andy, you’re probably high.’

Her new TikTok comes a month after she finalized for divorce from her second husband Randy Bick, a year on from her initial filing.

Kathy and Randy began dating in 2011 and tied the knot on New Year’s Day 2020, only for her to file for divorce in December 2023.

Shortly after it emerged that the marriage had fallen apart, a source spoke to DailyMail.com about the rift that had developed between them.

‘As of late, Randy was more content with being a homebody and instead of growing together, they started growing apart,’ the insider shared.

‘Kathy hates that it has ended this way, but she needed to be Kathy again, and this was the only way she was going to get there.’

By the time she filed for divorce, Randy had reportedly fallen out of touch with her and had not even provided a forwarding address, to the point she allegedly had to hire a private detective to locate him so she could have him served with the papers.

Kathy was previously married from 2001 to 2006 to one Matthew Moline, whom she accused of stealing $72,000 from her ‘over about a year and a half.’ 

He responded to the allegation with a statement saying: ‘Since our divorce, I have not made any public comments about my ex-wife or our marriage. It saddens me that she would choose to make such accusations at this time. I have no intention of engaging in a public debate over private matters.’

Meanwhile, Jack Black has been married to his wife Tanya Haden since 2006, and they now share two sons – Sammy, 18, and Tommy, 16.
