An award-winning crime drama with Hollywood talent has been shelved by the BBC despite having a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.
The Responder, starring The Hobbit actor Martin Freeman, has aired two successful series since it first aired in 2022 and is based in Liverpool.
Martin, 53, played troubled police response officer Chris Carson, who had been demoted from inspector and struggled to keep a grip on his mental health as he dealt with work and his personal life.
However, insiders have revealed that the popular crime show, created by Tony Schumacher, will not be made into a third season just yet, according to The Sun.
A source told the publication: ‘The BBC are really invested in the series but due to schedules the show has had to be put on ice.
‘Tony is currently working on another project but there is a hope a third series will be made at some point in the future.’

This comes despite The Responder’s perfect Rotten Tomatoes score where it has been rated 100% for both series one and two.
One fan penned on the review site, ‘Intense and well mounted British cop show starring the always brilliant Martin Freeman. This reminds of the Departed and Lethal Weapon; it’s got that kind of vibe. Recommended.’;
‘I was completely engrossed and infected by the show and the incredible performances.’;
‘Absolutely love this show!!!’;
‘This show is so well acted ,you can feel the pain in each character. They all seem to want to do good but they get drawn into the bad. Really hard to watch because , no good never happens.’
However some viewers haven’t been as impressed, with one writing, ‘Really enjoyed the first series but I had to switch off tonight, what a load of OTT rubbish, how two police officers could get themselves into such unbelievable situations time and time again is making it unwatchable. I’m afraid I’m done.’
The show also starred the late Lord Of The Rings legend Bernard Hill who pᴀssed away last year aged 79. He played Chris’s father, Tom.
Bernard’s final performance in the show aired just hours after his death was announced.
Other cast members include Emily Fairn as Casey, Adelayo Adedayo as Rachel Hargreaves and Josh Finan as Marco.
It comes after another popular BBC drama was shelved despite a string of rave reviews and killer ratings.
Four-part culinary series Boiling Point first aired on screens in 2023 and has proved to be a hit with fans.
This comes despite The Responder’s impressive Rotten Tomatoes score where it has been rated 100% for both series one and two
The chef drama invites viewers behind the swing doors of a high-class London eatery for a serving of nerve-wracking tension.
It stars Stephen Graham as Andy Jones, who had a heart attack and lost his restaurant, and Vinette Robinson as Carly, who is head chef of Point North.
Boiling Point is a sequel to the award-winning 2021 independent film of the same name.
However, in a crushing blow to viewers, it has been revealed there are no plans for a second series of the drama at the moment, according to The Sun.
