Ugly Betty star Eric Mabius has pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor charges after he was arrested last week following a violent bar brawl with two women in Florida.

The actor, 53, whose bleary-eyed mugsH๏τ was revealed last week, was arrested  in the early hours of February 20 in the city of Yulee, Florida and is accused of pushing one woman to the ground and ripping a ‘handful’ of hair from her scalp, per People. 

Mabius – who played Daniel Meade on the hit ABC show – is facing a battery charge and resisting arrest without violence, and according to court records obtained by the publication, issued a not guilty plea via his attorney four days after the arrest.

Later that day, Mabius signed a no-contact order for Amelia Bell, the alleged victim, according to documents obtained by People – with the order a requirement for him to be released on bond while awaiting trial. 

Under the terms of the order, Mabius is not to have ‘oral or written communication in any form’ with the alleged victim and remain more than 500 feet away from the alleged victim’s residence, vehicle and place of employment.

Per the arrest report, Mabius  was ‘extremely intoxicated and kept trying to yell at everyone’ in the bar before the alleged incident.

The actor is best known for playing Daniel Meade alongside America Ferrera on the ABC series Ugly Betty, which ran for four seasons from 2006 to 2010

The sheriff’s deputy arrived around 2:13 AM and ‘found a man and a woman who were both ‘extremely intoxicated.’

The pair were said to be ‘yelling at people inside the bar’ with two deputies helping the woman outside, before she laid on the ground and ‘continued to resist.’

The report adds that the ‘bartender and several other patrons  told the woman she was being obnoxious and wanted her to leave, which prompted the woman to spit at several patrons.’

It was claimed that is when Mabius pushed that woman and another female to the ground, before  ‘getting on top of the second woman and pulling her hair’ – with the report adding that he actually ripped hair from her scalp.

Bar patrons then separated them, with Mabius said to be ‘behaving belligerent’ when police arrived.

Per the report, Mabius refused commands to sit down and walked behind one of the deputies which prompted his arrest.

He was booked into the Nᴀssau County Jail and Detention Center just before 6am. 

Mabius and both of the women  were arrested for battery and resisting without violence.

The actor’s shock mugsH๏τ showed him looking dazed, with what appeared to be a cut and purple bruise by his right eye, while clad in a prison jumpsuit.

The other woman arrested has been identified as Jennifer Moreno.

Mabius got married to his high school sweetheart, Ivy Sherman in 2006, a decade after they started dating at Amherst Regional High School in Amherst, Mᴀssachusetts.

They both share two sons together, Maxfield Elliot and Rylan Jaxon, 16 after they tied the knot.

After Ugly Betty went off the air in 2010, the family relocated to his home state of Mᴀssachusetts.

‘My kids don’t need a big house. They just need to be with their dad and mom” Mabius said in a 2014 interview with Cape Cod Times.

Mabius and Sherman ultimately split in 2016, with the divorce settled in 2018, though he has never spoken publicly about the split.

However, the actor debuted a new mystery woman on his Instagram back in December 2023.

While she has been featured in several posts between December 2023 and October 2024, he has yet to identify her by name or tag her in the posts. 

It’s unclear if he’s still with the woman from those posts or not, though it’s been four months since he’s posted a snap with the mystery woman.

It won 42 awards and 92 nominations during its four-season run, including two Golden Globes – one for Best Comedy Series and the other for Ferrera, who won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy in 2007.

After Ugly Betty went off the air, Mabius went on to star in the Hallmark Channel series Signed, Sealed, Delivered.

While it only lasted one season, it also spawned a slew of TV movies, with Mabius returning as Oliver O’Toole in 11 of them.

He also had a seven-episode arc on NBC’s Chicago Fire in 2015 and starred in the Hallmark Christmas movies It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas (2019) and Haul Out the Holly (2022).

Mabius early screen credits in the 1990s also include Chicago Hope, Party of Five and Get Real.

He debuted a new girlfriend in 2024 but has not publicly revealed her name.
