Vicky McClure was spotted suited up in protective gear as she filmed scenes for series three of ITV thriller Trigger Point.

The actress, 41, got back into character as ex-military bomb disposal operative and Afghan War veteran Lana Washington, as she sH๏τ the latest installment on the streets of London.

Sporting black overalls, protective gloves and boots and a gas mask, Vicky appeared more than ready as she got stuck into her role while filming dramatic scenes.

And by the looks of things the latest installment is set to be as dramatic as ever, as Vicky and her co-stars were snapped stealthily crouching behind a wall as they prepared to take action.

However, amid the tense moments, the Line Of Duty star was seen sharing a giggle with the cast and crew in between takes.

The third series of the programme was announced in October last year, with Vicky excitedly remarking: ‘Trigger Point is back! We’re all so excited to get going.

‘We want to make the next series even more exciting, keep everyone on the edge of their seats whilst getting to know even more about the brilliant characters in the show.

‘Lana is such a complex character to play, it’s a joy for an actor to play a role with as many layers as Lana.’

ITV’s Head of Drama Polly Hill went on to reveal there’s going to be plenty more drama in series three, saying: ‘I am delighted that Trigger Point will be returning for a third series and Vicky McClure will be reprising her role as Lana Washington.

‘The whole cast are amazing in this series…

‘There’s going to be lots more twists and turns and of course explosions in this third series, viewers are going to love it!’

The show is produced by Jed Mercurio’s HTM Television company and he revealed viewers can expect plenty of ‘twists, turns, bangs and blasts’ in the new episodes.

He said: ‘Thank you to all the ‘Trigger Point’ viewers who have made the series such a success. Thanks to our fantastic crew and brilliant cast led by the amazing Vicky McClure.

‘We’re thrilled ITV, together with All3Media International, have commissioned a third season of twists, turns, bangs and blasts.’

The third season will also feature cast members Eric Shango, Nabil Elouahabi, Natalie Simpson and Maanuv Thiara.

The new season of Trigger Point, which began production in early 2025, comes following disappointing reviews for the second season, which fans branded ‘ludicrous and frustrating’.

The ITV show debuted in 2022 and the second series ran between January and March last year. On Rotten Tomatoes it only scored a 51 per cent audience rating, and reviews had an average score of 2.2/5.

Back in January 2024 Trigger Point viewers slammed the ‘unrealistic script’ and threatened to switch off over ‘wooden acting’ as the drama returned for a second series.

Vicky, who plays Lana, was back from secondment in Estonia for season two of the ITV show.

During episode one the operative, who heads a Metropolitan Police bomb squad, was seen training Ukrainian bomb disposal teams, but had not yet returned to active duty.

However, some viewers were left unimpressed by the instalment and took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts.

Many suggested the episode was ‘to woke’ because it suggested that a far right political group could be responsible for a bomb alert, while others claimed the  plot was ‘unrealistic’  after they spotted that a bomb on the show featuring a visible countdown timer.

One person wrote: ‘Just watched the first of the new series of #Triggerpoint. I hated the bs unrealistic full of errors first series. I tried, honestly with this. It’s so full of holes. Great cast, sh*** script. I can’t believe it’s written by the Line of Duty guy.’

Someone else wrote: ‘If you’re building a bomb why make the timer display visible? It defeats the object and allows people to escape? Oh sorry I forgot, it’s needed for TV #TriggerPoint.’

Another said: ‘#TriggerPoint poorly written plot, full of plot holes and characters doing stupid things. The bombs are ridiculously complex, all have ‘trigger’ after trigger. Bilge.’

Someone else said: ‘Is it just me or is the acting in Trigger Point really wooden?’
